How long until they play the Super Bowl?

At this point, I think its only a matter of time. Since the halftime shows have gotten away from the poppy mega-productions, who would be left? RHCP? Foo Fighters? PJ seems to really be working hard to further establish this "legacy." Conan was the first step. Im thinking Super Bowl to promote Rock Band/New EP/Full Blown world tour/Cameron Crowe movie. Unless, of course, this year's halftime show has already been announced...

  • i don't know...i mean NFL football is a violent game with a really bad rep as far as the countless douche bag players it has getting shot, shooting others, drug dealing, lewd sexual misconduct in public, dog fighting(and they are letting that scumbag comeback and play again!! :evil: :evil: :evil: ) etc etc...i don't know if they want to be affiliated with all that.

    GO PATS!! :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:
  • I'd be surprised if it happens at all... they are not performers in the way that Prince, U2 or Springsteen are performers. I am not sure they would make good TV for the masses--plus Ed is too much of a risk with that big of an audience--you know he will say something political and piss off the sponsors. My guess is that it never happens.

    The safer bet for this year is The Who. One of the biggest older(clearly what they've been going for lately) bands that have yet to play. Also, this years is on CBS, and the Who theme songs it for all their CSI shows. To me, it's the logical choice for that particular network. I'd love to see PJ play, though..but think about it--they get 12 mins. You'd get a new song and Alive? Thoughts on what they could play in 12 mins would be a better debate, in my opinion.

    A few years ago I never would have thought so either. But I also never would have thought that they would cut a deal with Target, have songs fill up 2 episodes of a primetime drama (or 1 on the finale of friends), license music for a video game, appear on a talk show other than Dave, or have their single teased on the MLB All Star game. Im just sayin theres a good chance somewhere down the line, and if Springsteen embraced it, they might too. I think they realize the old methods of getting your music out there are changing.

  • My guess is within the next ten years they will be at least offered the opportunity to perform.

    I hope not.

    I like it when Pearl Jam gets attention/respect... but not when they are over exposed.

  • I just posted this in another thread as well

    Bruce
    Tom Petty
    Prince
    The Stones
    Paul McCartney

    That is the last 5 halftime shows. Pearl Jam can't even come close to touching the popularity of any of them. Those bands also cross multiple generations in regards to fans. Pearl Jam has zero chance of ever being the act for a Super Bowl halftime show. You vastly overestimate their popularity.
