Thanks, guys. :) I know it seems like a silly question, but I was actually hoping for serious answers.

serious answer - (since you asked) - its an egg

why do you want people to answer this?

    the picture link's url ...

    http://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/13683_chicken_house_003.jpg

I'm guessing you'd get a more specific answer than "egg" on the Back Yard Chicken forum that would would here ... again, just a guess.

Well if I tell you why I'm doing the survey it might influence the results. ;)

But what I'm looking for is the name people give to this object, or what they think of it as. Hope that makes a little bit of sense. :)

    Thanks for answering!

    my answer is egg ...

but, now you have me thinking WHY you are doing this ...

is it to see if people will notice the piece of hay in the close up, is it a visual exercise?

Is this some sort of abortion related commentary? It's an egg, not a chicken ... etc etc ...

I think you set this up poorly ... so, what ever you were hoping for as far as results are concerned, may not happen.

i think that's all a part of the whole point perhaps. what do people see, what is their first reaction, etc.
also, given that she asks to 'identify this object' as in singular, i doubt it's about the hay, since that is in the plural....unless as someone else answered, referring to a nest. perhaps it isn't even an egg but simply looks like one? i am hoping, eventually, scb announces the method to her madness. ;)

It is a scaled down image of an egg. It is not an actual egg... merely, a facsmile in visual terms.

    Egg

    This.

I honestly doubt anyone's initial response would be something other than "egg".

I would have to say the results of this survey are officially skewed beyond practicality.
