A very sad day,glad he got to see his charity match on sunday,the guy battled cancer all his life,i believe this was the fifth time he had it,never seemed to dampen his love for football or life
A true gentleman that no one had a bad word for,and i hope that Newcastle United honour his name somehow.

a great man a great footballer a great manger a hero to a nation and even made me feel good when not gettin a trial at ipswich only bobby robson could turn a negative into a postive . my heart stopped a beat when i saw the news and brought a tear to my eye will be so missed by so many only bobby robson could unite all football fans across the uk in there grief for the great man rip

That would be lovely.
I was reading tributes to the great man on teletext and there was some really,really nice ones from Sunderland fans,everybody loved him.

he was a truly genuine and likeable guy.

Thank you - it was more emotional than I thought going there - so many people still coming through the ground to pay their respects. An amazing sight to see so much love for one man.

I thought that the picture of the Sunderland jersey really summed it up. He was a man that transcended rivalries
