Anybody else have one near them? I think there are less than a dozen left. I go all the time. You can do what ever you want, smoke, drink, SEX. The food is way over priced and it sucks, its like school food but worse. I may go and see Harry Potter tonight if its not raining.
I'll be back

There was on in my town when I was growing up ... and one a few towns north of me ... both closed by the time I was 10 or so. The last movie I saw at a drive in was Ghostbusters.

I wouldn't even know where there is one near me out here ... no one talks about them at all anymore.

Pretty soon, the term "drive in" will be lost on the younger generation.

The term 'drive-in' has changed defintions. Sure do miss them myself, carload nights and you can bring in your beer!

We have one and while we don't go often, it's cool...

Plus, I know some employees so I get in free :)

I have one about 5 minutes from my house in South Fla... i try to go when there's a good 'drive-in type' fllick playing. You're right, there'a nothing better than bringing whatever you want and plopping into a lawn chair if there is nice weather.

In the hockey arena I used to work at, they do drive in movies in the parking lot. They have three screens and do double features every night in the summer. Normally one screen is a pair of kids movies and the other two are PG-13 and R movies. So it's pretty badass. And it's only like $9 a person for two movies.
I remember one night I was getting out of work and walking to my car just as Wolverine was starting, so I just found the radio station it was on, and rolled down my windows and watched it.

I just love drive in movies especially when I'm living in S. Florida off of Lake Worth Ave in Palm Beach County. I couldn't believe they still existed the first time I saw it. We pack up the kids with our frisbie/football and throw before the movie. I'm going next month cause there's not one up here in the MD/DC area that I know of.

I grew up in a city where there was snow on the ground for 6 months of the year, and we had TWO drive in's within ten minutes, and a couple more around the city....now that I think about it, they probably weren't that tough or costly to build here back then - cheap prairie land

I remember my first drive-in movie well: the Empire Strikes Back.... I was 6, my parents let me stay up late to see it there cause I had chicken pox :D It was folllowed by (pretty sure it was) the Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat....I remember being pissed that my parents would let me stay for the cartoon

man did we party at those long weekend all-nighters (four movies) when I was in HS... now it feels taboo to type the words 'drive' and 'party' in the same paragraph...
makes me feel old to think about it; they've been gone for a looooong time :(

we used to have a great drive-in theatre close to home. i remember when it was slated to close, got a lot of press b/c it was, i think, the last of the lot on long island. i saw a fair few films there....memories. that said, the theare gone and what did they build in it's place? a huge, fantastic 10 or 12 screen stadium seating movie theatre. it is now our favorite theatre, always our first choice to see films there....so while it was sad to see the end of an era with the drive-in gone, i am actually quite happier with the new theatre in it's place.
    Stay with me...

We've got one about 30 minutes from our house.

It's something like $12 per person for 2 or 3 movies (depends on the weekend) and on a nice Friday or Saturday night, the place is absolutely jammed . . . and the popcorn doesn't suck either :ugeek:

I remember one of the drive-ins close to me showed X rated movies until the late 80's. Those were simpler times...
  • Up until a few years ago, Buffalo had two, the Transit and The Buffalo. We used to go all the time. The Buffalo just closed 2 years ago to make way for a parking lot. The Transit is still going strong. We live in Atlanta now, but haven't been to the one here. Every labor day they have an all night marathon with crazy old school drive in type movies, I'd like to go, it seems pretty bad assed.
  • Back home we have one about fifteen minutes outside of town and the place is always busy. Mostly I think the high school kids love it :P I remember when I was younger my uncle and his wife took my sister and I. I don't think they really knew much about the second movie ( and I can't remember the first) because it was "Fatal Attraction". Awkward. :o:lol:
  • Love Drive-ins. There's a couple near me that I like to check out every few years or so. Loved the experience going to them growing up. In seeing the extra n in "inn" also reminded me of this place:

There's one in southeastern Wisconsin that we'll still occasionally go to, one that I hope never shuts down because it's one of the last ones around here. They usually have a double feature for super cheap.
They have a website where you can search for drive ins in your area:

There's one in the city I live in.. when we were in high school we used to go for car load night and pack like 12 people in a car. They don't do carload night anymore...haha. It's always a double header too, right now they're showing the new GI Joe and Transformers.

Yeah, there is one about 20 minutes from Tacoma, in Auburn, WA. The Valley 6, which only has 5 working screens. But yeah, I love going. And you always get two movies for the price. And they replay the first movie again after the second movie.
