The Pirates are an embaressment to professional sports. I would say they have even surpassed the Clippers. MLB should force them to be sold to an owner that cares about them. Or cares about anything. The Rooney's and Lemuiex should get together and buy them, it's obvious they know how to win and build good teams. Or they should be sold to Cuban like they almost were a few years ago. They could bring in random people off the street and they could run that team better. Its a disgrace.

It's a shame. I remember watching the Bonds, Bonilla, Van Slyke teams of the early 90's and they were awesome.

The moves this year in and of themselves aren't bad... especially the Seattle deal yesterday, they traded a 31 year old light hitting SS making $8 million and a 2-8 head case pitcher for some prospects...not bad.

Well see if this new management is serious about building a team and if any of the prospects pan out....

The problem is that this rebuilding has come after 15+ years of rebuilding... I remember in the early/mid-90's that then GM Cam Bonifay had a "5 year plan" to rebuild the team... and we're still waiting.

And Rooney or the Lemieux group wouldn't touch this team with a 10 foot pole... Baseball is so out of whack without a salary cap, there is really now way that the pirates can be profitable and put a competing team on the field. Cuban could have helped... they need an owner who has no problem throwing money away.

    I'm older than dirt also.

70's was the last time they fielded a decent team I think. it'll probably be the 70's before they are good again.

Hopefully the Cubs will get one by then.

Can't say I feel too bad for Pitt fans, considering they have the Super Bowl trophy and Stanley Cup floating around their city. But for strictly baseball enthusiasts, it's gotta be rough. That's quite a list of players they've moved in the last few years. I remember when they shipped Lofton and Aramis to the Cubs for a bag of balls in 2003, filling the Cubs (a division opponent mind you) needs and sending them on their playoff run. They have a stocked farm system now, but you need to mix in talented veterans and clubhouse guys to be consistently succesfull. We'll be able to judge these moves a lot better in 2-3 years.
