After all the hard work Tom has put into the artwork for PJ's upcoming album, he deserves his own thread (again).

Tom Tomorrow:
All encompassing trip
I’ve been pretty constrained in what I can say about the Pearl Jam collaboration publicly, but with the Backspacer art gone viral all over the web today (I don’t have a link for you because the full cover hasn’t been officially released, but if you poke around — cough cough Wikipedia cough — you’ll find fair approximations fans have put together) — anyway, it seems like a good moment to publicly say thank you to the band, and especially to Eddie, who dreamed up this crazy scheme to begin with. I was feeling like my career had just been kneecapped with the loss of the VVM papers, and might have spent the next six months moping and feeling sorry for myself — instead, I ended up embarking on one of the great adventures of my professional life. (Not that this was a freebie — what I was offered, initially, was a chance, nothing more. Had I fumbled the ball, I have no doubt that the art you’d be seeing today would be something very different. But happily I didn’t, and it’s not.)

As the album drop date gets closer I’ll be able to talk about this in more detail. But for now, I just want to express my heartfelt thanks to the band, for trusting me as an artist, and for changing my life these past six months. It’s been a fantastic wave to ride so far.

… and while I’m on the subject: everyone in the PJ offices has been amazing to work with. And big, big props to the invaluable Andy Fischer, who’s been handling the production details on this thing for months.

I still think Sparky would make a great vinyl figure, and it seems like this would be a good moment for it. I corresponded with a couple people about this earlier in the year but those emails seem to have been deleted or otherwise lost in the void. If anybody has any contacts at KidRobot or anything like that, can you get ahold of me at tomtomorrow-at-ix-dot-netcom-dot-com? Where's Boom, though? :( Arggghhh!!

I love how Stone wore a pink shirt with red around the neck!

Hubby has one in that kind of design but it says Tennessee....or something like that. I don't know why I don't remember what it says - he has had that shirt for years! :P

But I like pink shirts on men.... and 2 points for Stoney!

I love the cover art. Great job to all involved for creating something compelling and unique. And you can say what you want about Eddie and his politics, but you can never deny the man is legitimate with his feelings. He obviously cares greatly about people and based on everything I've seen of him is as genuine as any artist out there.

I like the picture of everyone, too. However, it does kind of look like Eddie is threatening Tom's life a bit, like, "Smile and pretend you're happy or I snap your neck." Stone looks a bit scared as well. Plus, Jeff has gotten awfully tall since I last saw him. :D

So maybe Tom wasn't telling us the "entire truth" when he was talking to Ed earlier today.... ;)

    You're funny! 8-)

But I agree with your assessment on Eddie and how impressive and creative everyone has been on this project!

props to tom! great work! nice to hear such heartfelt and sincere appreciation for a gig many would kill to have... its unheard of for the band to give up this much creative control and its nice to see that it was for a great guy for the right reasons and he made something worthy of their high expectations

cant wait to dig through the rest of the art and hear the full explanation (if he chooses to give one) at the appropriate time

    THANKS ALL

You are right about that, KT! It says a lot about the band - how they want to give room for creativity from others and working together. From my experience in Nashville regarding my unique situation, I was pretty damn impressed with their management's attitude. That is not something I see everyday. Wish we'd see more people like that today.

Also, they gave us something to enjoy on the artwork besides the puzzle, but what they meant...fun to see people throwing in their knowledge and experiences.

Anddddd.... anddd... you gotta give Tom more credit because shit...we are really a difficult group to please, aren't we? I'd say a higher percent of us - at least from how I get the sense from the PJ community (bite me for those who say the term has been dead :P) has approved the artwork and really enjoyed it!

I'd be scared shitless of the PJ community if I were to do the artwork...going *whimpers* what would they think??? Eddie?? I can't do this!! They'll be all over my ass!!! Sowwie, Ed!!! *runs away, crying*

Oh, I think he will... He is enjoying this as much as we do! I just saw his twitter page - he even twittered a thread here!! That's hilarious!!!

Don't wait too long to share with us, Tom!

And...finally, mookeywrench - thanks a lot... I was just getting over the fact it was ok to be a little overweight - almost. Now I got to work on my mentality again to go and work out.

Pffft at ya...but yeah those are gorgeous women. ;) :P

everything about this record feels so......different

    i'm excited

+1 x 10000000000000000000000000000000............ and it's unusual that I wake up in the middle of the night and being so happy/excited!Well, actually it's partially due to hubby's killer hands... let's just say if I caught him giving another woman a back message, that'd be worse than catching him in bed with another woman! :P That would be an unusual headline in news...

I also told hubby (who hasn't even slept yet - his body is still used to 3rd shift even when he transferred to 1st shift for a year before he got laid off) about my day... and told him to come and read this, so thus the "bump".

Making it easier for him.... ;) He is not an internet person and still likes things the old fashioned way.

But he's stuck on the "Present Tense" right now.... he's annoyed that he forgot the chords. I can still hear him playing... lol

But yeeahh YieldToNothing - the air is definitely different for this record and I'm liking it a lot!

Too bad we won't be seeing PJ playing this year....but I suspect they would be having too much fun this year that they'd want to add more shows next year!!

Methinks they'd come out to Detroit... and also, I hope they'll play San Diego again next year because I intend to go there for a special reason!

I look forward to everyone's reviews on the upcoming shows in Given To Fly forum!!! 8-)

posted by Tom Tomorrow at 8:45 AM

I love dreams -- I always analyze my dreams.... matter of fact, I'm still analyzing one of my dreams back in 2007. There are so many clues in that dream that I get blown away when I piece the puzzles together and just when I think it's all figured out, there's more...

It occurred months before the Lolla 07 - even before PJ was announced. I believe it was in Feb of '07.

It was quite bizarre - there was a person who was considered as a "robot" and I don't want to go into details here, but it was a warning that things were going to be bad for me and with the intensity of strong feelings in that dream which eventually indicated to me that it was going to stick with me for a long, long time.

And there were some technologies left unused on one wall....and I figured out later that it was up to me to make sure they were used to the full of their capabilities.

Stuff like that... just blows me away even thinking about that....

*shuts herself up* Yes, dreams and memories - perfect cover!!!

    Keep it coming, Tom!!!!
