Wow, that's a great pickup. Should be interesting. Yanks/Phillies :D and Giants/Eagles in the same parking lot in the same weekend as Pearl Jam. Could be incredible.

If the Phillies got Halladay I would say there is a conflict but Lee, not so much. He is good but no where near Halladay. 4 Lefties in a rotation is never a good thing either.
  • have fun with the dodgers without homefield.
looking to hear of the earth
  • yea its gonna be crazy! ...oh yea and the flyers play at 1pm that day um we took care of the dodgers not scared
  • Yeah...i don't see how a WS between Boston and LA is a conflict for Philly.
  • 4 lefties is a lot but i think its the best deal that we could pull off without losing happ and drabek. I dont mind it at all and at least they did something cause or rotation now was sub par imo

Lee in Citizens Bank won't work out that well, he'll do alright. But the World Series is not a lock not with Lee.
  • thats cause people from boston cant see past boston.....dont get me wrong boston prob will be there but why is everyone on the dodgers nut sack
  • didnt say anything is a lock ...just hoping man jeez...and heres a news flash no pitcher in citizens bank park is good

Agreed, it is a good pick up. The Jays were asking way to much.

Only way that Boston has a shot at the WS is if they get Halladay. One game shouldn't mean much, but yesterday's game pretty much summed up why.

how is yesterday's game any way, shape or form a microcosm of boston's season?

Phils are only 3 behind the Dodgers for home field.

I'm pretty happy with this pick up as well and very happy that we didn't give away too much.

As far as the conflict, it's the same as last year, I was at the Who show during the WS last year. It was such an electrifying experience being down in South Philly with all that excitement abounding.

We watched the fire works over CB Park while standing outside the Wachovia catching a smoke. It gave me chills to say the least.

Hopefully, we'll be doing it again this year, only with PJ in town instead of the Who

    GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't come closer or I'll have to go

There is no conflict. I am a major Philly sports fan and would chose PJ over the Phillies any day of the week. Even if it was game seven of the World Series Phillies vs. whoever, I'd go to the PJ show at the Spectrum, maybe not Camden, but definitely Spectrum. I also live in the Philly sports fan world, where I believe the greatest sporting event at the Spectrum, was not the Flyers in the 70's or Sixers in the 80's, but Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed in the 70's. OK, the mental hospital says my computer time is up.

Oh, you mean those same Dodgers we beat last year in 2 out of 3 games IN LA? Yeah, I'll continue to worry. 8-)

Oh, by the way, we're only three games behind that little NL lead you guys have and we have won 18 of 21. Look.....the fuck out.

What a pick-up for our Fightin' Phils!!!! Hamels, Happ, Moyer, Blanton, and Lee; not a bad rotation if I do say so myself! Not to mention, you won't even need a 5-man rotation come playoff time! Add Pedro Martinez and a possible Brett Myers to that and it is looking good. Let's not forget the monster offense we carry as well!!! Why are we talking Red Sox? They need to make the playoffs. Dodgers? Took care of that last year and would be happy to do it again. Hate all you want Philadelphia haters, the bottom line is that the Phillies just got a lot stronger in the most important position come playoff time...PITCHING! Nothing is written in stone, but if you know ANYTHING about baseball, you HAVE to include the Phillies in your World Series talk!!!!!

Of course they are included, they are the defending champs but they are far from a lock.

The Dodgers are a better team than they were last year. Not saying they will beat the Phillies but they are better.

And, how would yesterday's game sum up why they need a top end starter? Bucholz pitched well enough to win and the team was up 7-4 in the ninth...

Uh, no he's not. Until the last season and a half Lee average 2 fly ball outs to every ground ball out.

Exactly, until last season when he became the quality pitcher he is. Before 2008, he had one solid season and spent a lot of time in the minors. Last year his GB% was 46% and his FB% was 35%, a polar opposite of the rest of his career when he struggled. I would imagine the Phillies are hoping they are getting the pitcher of the last year and a half, a ground ball pitcher.

don't be worried about this...pitchers going from the AL to the NL almost always perform better. The Lee pickup is a great one for the phils.

And I'm not scared of the Dodgers...at all. They have Casey Blake batting fifth. That's plain awful. Phils will pass them and earn homefield in the NL.

Can't wait to hit WS games again this fall

I am a Yanks fan so I have no interest except that it better not mean the Sox have a better chance at landing Halladay. Just my 2 cents. Good pickup overall, Halladay would have been huge, this is solid.

Halladay would have been great, but we acquired a legit #1/2 horse without giving up any of our top three prospects, or Happ.

And we got the righty bench bat we needed. And Lee makes $6MM less than Halladay next year, which might be the difference in being able to afford to offer arbitration to Blanton.

    GREAT deal.
