Pretty cool that it's going to debut that high, nice to see a good band amongst most of that crap.

    Didn't "WWS" debut at #1?

For some reason your link isn't working for me. I'm curious; what other crap is in the top 10 (just my snide view on contemporary music...damn you American Idol!).

You might want to be carefull of your wording. If the chart is always full of crap bands, then one would think when PJ is on the chart that PJ is crap. Otherwise, some of the bands on the list aren't crap. Just saying that you can't be happy that PJ is on a list that only has crap bands, because that means PJ is crap.

I like the Fixer and Pearl Jam. I'd just be careful how you word things.

No, I meant it like it's nice to see a band that's good on that chart. I'm happy because it's taking the place of some shitty Nickelback/Linkin Park song, and more people might become Pearl Jam fans as a result and realize how much better PJ are than the bands on that list. I think you read it wrong.

I know what you are saying, and that you think PJ is better than everyone on the list.

But it is like you are on a bus and you look around and there are 29 girls, no guys and you. Would you assume not knowing your own sex that you are a girl since you are on a bus and there are 29 other girls and no guys? Maybe you are a ladies man and this happens often. But my point is, if the Modern Rock Charts always suck and are full of 20 songs that suck, and PJ happens to find its way onto the chart and is surrounded by 19 songs that suck.....well, one could infer that PJ's song must suck.

I know you like PJ, but I was just commenting on you and others who claim the music on the list sucks, and then when PJ is on it the list all of sudden means something and they "got it right this time". Don't mean to argue.

WWS hit #1 on the Modern Rock chart, as did Brother. What's the difference between Modern and Mainstream, you ask? I have no clue. :?

Well, I'm speaking in general terms. Sometimes there's a good song or two that rises up that chart - "Sex on Fire" is a recent song that I enjoy that went to #1. I see what you're saying, bootlegger, but I meant it more as a compliment to "The Fixer" than as a criticism.

And the charts weren't always bad - back in the mid-'90s you could have a band like R.E.M. place high in the chart, whereas nowadays that's very unlikely. I mean, if "Supernatural Superserious" was released in 1994, it would've been much more successful on the charts.

For the record, I have a soft spot for Linkin Park's first record. I hated them at first, but then grew to kind of like it.. sue me.

Their new song is pretty lame though. I think I'm growing back into hating them.

the Modern Rock Charts always suck and are full of 20 songs that suck, and PJ happens to find its way onto the chart and is surrounded by 19 songs that suck.....well, one could infer that PJ's song must suck.

But it's worth noting that most of PJ's singles over the last 10 years fall right off the rock charts in like two weeks time. WWS was an exception but I totally think The Fixer will. I think PJ debuts high because of the excitment of new Pearl Jam but they fall off because the song usually don't fit in with the other songs on the chart. So PJ's lack of chart success over the past decade might actually be complimentary to their music. I'd rather they be a classic rock act whose singles and albums are only cared about their true fans than see them pushed down the throats of Nickleback and Panic at the Disco fans who don't want to hear them on the radio anyway.

A bit off-topic, but I'm really surprised at the success of "Brother" on that chart. It's a good song, but I don't think it's any more catchy than, say, "Save You", which completely stalled on the charts.

You average rock fan today just really isn't interested in new Pearl Jam. They're down for an un-earthed gem from the Ten sessions like Brother though.

"Brother" was vintage Pearl Jam (since it was a "Ten"-era track and also its sound). The majority of casual Pearl Jam fans got off the bandwagon after "Vitalogy" so it makes sense to me that "Brother" was well received.
