Night 1 or 2 when you have the choice...

I have fan club seats for both Chicago shows. My wife is going to one, and a good friend in Chicago to the other. I get to decide who goes to which. My wife is the newbie fan who does not yet appreciate the b-sides and other songs most of us love, and I would prefer to take her to the show that includes more of the "greatest hits." From those of you who pay ridiculous detail to these types of things, which of the 2 shows do you believe that's likely to be? Perhaps this is a crapshoot, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Night 2 is more likely to have "rare" songs. But it's not guaranteed.

I think this whole "last night in one venue is better" idea is a total myth. There's equally as many examples when the first night in a venue is much better.

I agree with the previous post it is a total crapshoot on which night is better. Several times I have chosen one of the other, it always seems to be the show I don't attend that makes me go wowo on the set. That being said I have never regretted going to any show. either night will rock so pick one and enjoy it!

It is a complete crapshoot. But if I had to pick I would go with night #2 based on the fact that after Chicago 2 there isn't another show for 4 days so if they want to really let loose and break curfew, I think night #2 has a better chance.

The band talk big about "breaking curfew" but as far as I know, they never (or very rarely) do it. It's all talk to get the crowd amped up.

I think they may have done it a couple of times in 2003 but not since then.

Based on personal experiences, night 2 has a better setlist, night 1 has better merch (that hasn't sold out yet)

I also would pick night 2. I have been to many night 1 shows, and as amazing as they are, I always kick myself for not going to night 2 after I see the setlist and what people have to say. This year I am going to both Seattle shows, I just can't take the chance of missing anything!

How do you know if they pay or not? Not trying to be a jerk, just honestly curious.

As far as the nights go, it definitely is a crapshoot. I've gone to all 3 shows in a city and thought the first one was the best. Then I only went to night 1 of Ed's solo shows in Berkeley and Mike McCready showed up for night 2.

Yeah I mean if you really think that one night over the other is the best, then you are buying into the idea that the band must actually be planning this out. That is, they must be saying amongst themselves, "Ok, lets play all the hits and regular stuff the first night, and then do the rare or obscure stuff the second night"...and what reason would they actually have for doing this??? And could you honestly picture these guys coming up with such a plan?

Personally the only reason I would think a second night might be better is if they know they have a day or two off afterward (as in the case with the Chicago shows), in which case they might be more willing to really lay it out there energy-wise. However, as far as, for example, the Philly shows are concerned, it really is a crap shoot. Either way, my money says its a bad ass show regardless!! ;)

Every time I got tix to night 1 the 2nd night was always better. Now that I got night 2 in Philly I think it will be the other way around. Just my feelings.

I think about the only time a night 1 will top a night 2 is if the 2nd night is added b/c of demand, but really there is no theory. There used to be quite a few people that preferred Seattle 1 00 and MSG 1 03 over their counterparts.

    I'd choose the second show...

While reading about the first show, no matter how spectacular it sounds, I can still hope they'll out do themselves the next night.

Plus, if I went to first show and it was awesome I may start regretting not going to night 2 and may distract from my enjoyment. At the second show I wouldn't be keep thinking 'what will they play tomorrow?' I would just enjoy it for what it is.

That being said, the correct answer is both.

night 1 EV solo chicago was better than night 2 from a music perspective, although night 2 did have sean penn and the stanley cup

he doesn't know unless he works for a certain arena. most venues have a 11pm-11:30pm curfew. i've seen pj 6 times and all times they've come close to passing it. msg 2 08 seemed like it went past midnight cause the place was half empty by the time the houselights came up.

I don't have any kind of concrete proof, just making a comment based on other comments here and on RM by people that do know such things. Someone back me up here...
