11 songs vs. 13-15 songs

At first when I found out there were only 11 songs on Backspacer (36 minutes) I was a bit let down, only because I've grown accustomed to PJ having 13+ song albums. But after awhile the thought of 11 concise songs (ala Ten) doesn't seem that bad. If you were to strip the other albums of the non-songs (fillers), Vitalogy would have 10 songs, No Code would have 12 or 11, Yield 11, BInaural 12, Riot Act 14, S/T (Avocado) 12.
Fillers (in my opinion) from the albums:
Ten - none
Vs. - none
Vitalogy - pry, to, bugs, aye davanita, stupid mop
No Code - lukin (maybe), i'm open
Yield - *, push me, pull me
Binaural - soon forget
Riot Act - arc
Avocado - wasted reprise

I wouldn't think to call these fillers.
Mike mentioned it in an interview. can't remember which one. look in the sticky titled "ECHOES" on The Porch. Kat archived all of the radio interviews.

I don't think short albums are a bad thing.
Best point I've seen so far.

yeah, if it's good, it doesn't matter how long it is. However, it seems like the math might be wrong. 11 songs would mean about 3 mins per song. Not buying it based on past works.

But I also think there are great albums that are 30 minutes or even less. Every single Beatles album was very short, 30 minutes or so, barring of course the White Album.
And more currently, I would say The Strokes Is This It, was like 28 minutes and is a classic, every single song is great.
While we all would love 79 minutes and 59 seconds of Pearl jam on this album, sometimes less is more...
i like pearl jams creativity, id be let down... i suppose.. if they just did a straight forward 11 rock songs without goin abit crazy like in red dot
Push me - pull me, bugs, soon forget...all great in their own weird way...but I agree with the original poster...they are still filler tracks for the albums "real" songs...
I typically like my songs around 4 and a half to 5 minuets of rock...but I would rather them make the songs fit the length of the music if that makes sense.. don't make it longer just to be trying to make it longer..

and Let It Be is only 35:13
actually, im pretty sure 6 or so of the Beatles records were under 40 minutes long.
i'm not worried, its going to be a great 36 minutes !
