Touting solution??

Touting should be properly outlawed - there are 2 tickets on the bay for PJ SB tickets and it's up to £580. That's £500 profit for doing sod all. It annoys me so much people make a living out of this when both myself and my other half are struggling to get 'real' work - it is so tempting to do something like this to make some quick and easy money, but we couldn't live with ourselves if we did. :x :x

Although I'd miss the actual tickets I wish more sales were like this (from NIN site):

"paperless presale for terminal 5 and aragon ballroom performances
nin.com only had access to a limited number of tickets for the upcoming terminal 5 dates in new york and the aragon ballroom dates in chicago. the remaining tickets will be available through ticketmaster. in an effort to keep tickets in the hands of the fans and out of the hands of brokers/scalpers, ticketmaster will be selling the remaining tickets via their new paperless ticketing system.

here's how it works:

1. buy your tickets online using a credit card.
2. bring the credit card used to purchase your tickets and a valid government issued photo id to the venue.
3. go directly to the door with your guests, present your id and swipe your credit card for immediate entry into the venue."

Do you mean "scalping"? I've never heard "Touting" in the US.

There's a great letter written about how the promoters (like Live Nation) are in bed with the scalpers, so they have absolutely no interest in keeping the tickets secured.

Search "Reznor" and you'll probably find it.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

Sorry, yeah scalping - yeah I've read the letter and I know it will never be outlawed - but it bloody well should be! Just needed to vent a little!

I agree. I worked for the two major NYC area promoters for years (before they merged eventually into Live Nation) and I wonder if they were involved in this stuff while I was there.

The thing is when they ask a promoter to be involved, it's kinda the promoter's show from there on in. PJ could decide to do a tour on their own, renting venues on their own and maybe using smaller venues and they would avoid all of that. I think in 1998 with "yield", that's exactly what they did. Yield to the TM, scalping issue... and eventually to adding corporate sponsors such as Bud Light and Verizon Wireless.
