I have tickets for PJ's Chicago shows and I'm sooooo excited. All I could do was listen to ev solo's on my ipod or blast Yield in my room while I was going through some tough moments of emotional roller coasters. Right now I'm watching any PJ I can find to remind me that the time will come to enjoy my Tenclub tix- something I've wanted ever since I was a little girl- 19 yrs ago. And right now I'm super emotional about everything in life. If anyone has any advice I'd love it. Sometimes it feels noone understands my life with PJ. PJ and EV have gotten me through A LOT in life- losing weight, getting through happy memories and tough times. I told my friends and family- if I do anything in this world, the #1 thing is to finally meet the band or get the chance to meet EV. Of course I'd be a fool and a world wouldn't be able to come out of my mouth. Needing outlets right now. To fellow Pearl Jammers out there- thank goodness for Backspacer and their tours this year. I feel PJ is writing music for fans like me out there in this world.

I agree that PJ music is definitely emotional at times and they seem to get whatever tough time a person may be going. And it could be something from the 90's that is still relevant today. I hope you get well and make it to the show as the show will definitely make you feel better foe a couple hours.
  • Hang in there! And throw on some No Code and Riot Act, too. Present Tense is an amazing song...such beautiful words. And there is so much love in Yield and Riot Act. There is a history of bipolar disorder in my family, so I know a little about it. My dad is bipolar, and as long as he takes his medicine, he is ok. If you don't keep a journal, it might really help to start one. Just write out everything that you are feeling. I used to suffer from depression, and it really helped me. I'm pulling for you. I'll be in Chicago, too. I hope you get to go! Just know that you are loved and you WILL get through this. :D

Sorry to hear you're going through such a difficult time. Use all of your available resources to ensure that you get the proper care and don't be shy about getting second or third opinions until you see and feel results. From the limited exposure I have of the disorder through some friends, it may take some time to figure out how to re-balance some of the brain chemistry to get you feeling right.

I can share that music can be such an important healing force. Our second child, my son Trevor was born in May and was diagnosed with a viral infection that affected his brain. For weeks I could not find pleasure in anything and couldn't even bring myself to listen to music. I had tickets to Eddie's solo show and figured I'd have to sell them. But gradually I realized I needed my wits and strength for my daughter, my wife, myself, and for the rough road ahead for our son. I started listening to music again and found the inspiration I needed to get motivated again. Before long, I realize that not only did I want to go to the EV show, I HAD to go. Since the show, each day has been stronger than the next.

Keep listening to the songs that inspire you and know that there are family and friends that love you, need you, and are there for you to lean on until you get strong again. Trust in the medical help you are receiving but don't be afraid to seek further opinions so that you can regain your balance.

    Wish you luck.

Personally, I have found music to be one of the best "therapies" for me. Whether it be depression, heartache, being stressed out, or whatever. Especially music I can feel an emotional connection with. And for me anyway, there are very few bands that I can feel an emotional connection to their songs - Pearl Jam probably being the one with the strongest emotional ties for me (although Pink Floyd, The Who, and Pete Townshend's solo material all rank right up there). I can have a bad day, whether it be at work, or just life in general...and cranking up a song I love to sing at the top of my lungs, or wrap some headphones around my brain and listen to the quiet, heart wrenching songs and let the feelings flow.

Life, I have found, is full of challenges - most of which we would have never expected to come at us. Sort of a roller coaster, if you'll pardon the cheesy metaphor. There are high and low points...and quite a few sort of in that middle, "blah" area, if you will. (Those days you never think of as bad, but never really give credit for as being "good" since nothing overwhelmingly awesome happened that day...simply not a "bad" day)

It sounds like your current situation is quite a rough spot, and I would never mean to downplay or belittle it. So I don't mean to give that impression, I only mean to say that although it may seem dark now - there will be better times. They may seem far off, and almost unreachable - but they do exist. If you find solace in the music of Pearl Jam, then let the music flow and let it soothe your soul.

Seeing a live PJ show has been a dream of mine for many years also and I finally have fan club tixs to Phily.
No matter what may be going on you have to make the time to go to the show. As EV said "We all want to be free tonight". You need a night to be free. Don't ever forget that we are all connected, not just us PJ fans, although that is great but all of us as humans. You are strong enought to overcome this. Focus on the love in your life. "Indifference" might be a great strenghtening song for you now. Peace.

"I will light the match this morning, so I won't be alone
Watch as she lies silent, for soon light will be gone
Oh I will stand arms outstretched, pretend I'm free to roam
Oh I will make my way, through, one more day in...hell
How much difference does it make
How much difference does it make...
I will hold the candle, till it burns up my arm
I'll keep takin' punches, until their will grows tired
Oh I will stare the sun down, until my eyes go blind
Hey I won't change direction, and I won't change my mind"

I too lost my mother a few years ago. I understand the situation you find yourself in,
and I am very sorry for your loss.
May you take comfort in thoughts of good times, and good memories of your loved
one. They are in a better place.
