Died today.

Well, not fully, yet. Transmission is going, almost gone to tell you the truth. Sooo, I take it to a local place, guy says he can't fix it, it's got that odd, VTI tranny. OK, so, he says he'll see what can be done, probably will have to be replaced. So, I get home, I decide to call Saturn. I've heard about problems with that transmissions.

Low and behold, the woman on the phone tell me it's 100% COVERED!!! They extended the warranty to 100,000 miles. As long as you are the only owner, you're good. They also cover tow costs and rental car fees. I almost shit my pants. I thought for sure I would be out $5,000. Shitty part is, seeing they closed so many dealerships, I gotta go to Worcester, about an hour away.

So, if anyone here owns a Saturn with that transmission, keep an eye out. My check engine light went on yesterday, that's how I knew something was gonna happen, sure enough, same day, started running funny.

    You're telling me.

I really put it on here so if anyone else had that model they would know about it. I guess it's not common knowledge, you gotta search for it. I called them directly on a whim.

I'm glad to hear someone else is having a taste of automotive luck. Good for you though, the hour drive doesn't seem to bad in exchange for the extended warranty. :)

I've been eating my fair amount of shit lately with car troubles... :(

Oh shit, I just posted on your thread! TO FUNNY!

Trust me, I was shitting myself wondering what is was gonna cost. I would have to park the car as I don't have that kinda cash laying around. I have a Saturn Vue to fall back on, but my boyfriend is driving it now and his van needs brakes before it can drive, so I was realllllly shittin myself.

    Good luck

So, my Saturn Ion is doing this thing where the RPM drops suddenly, severely (and not just when I'm applying the break, silly). I tried to google rapid RPM drops, but didn't come up with anything, or at least anything i could understand. Any thoughts?
  • I would take it to a place where they can do a diagnostic test on it. See if they can get a code off it. Or call Saturn and see what they say.

  • Well, we got the car to the dealership in Worcester, barely, 40MPH on the Masspike is NO fun, I don't recommed it. Anyway, its (transmission) gotta be replaced, so I get a rental for a week!!! Best part is everything is free of charge excecpt a new belt.

that is simply awesome!!! congrats to you! my transmission died about a month ago. it was a 2003 Rodeo with 135K+. good news is, i sold it privately for well over trade-in value. and i did so with a clear conscience b/c i fully disclosed the transmission issue. i miss that car, though. oh well...we're going car shopping in 2 weeks!

Hey Purple, it's about time you got a good "break"! Damn, though, 40 mph on the Mass Pike?? The Massholes must have been running you off the road!!!!

It's nice to get a good break with a car for once...

My buddy had a late 90's toyota tacoma and there was a problem with the frame rusting... Toyota extended the warranty on them because of the problems. He had the thing for over 10 years, had like 180,000 miles on it, and toyota gave him 150% of the highest blue book value for it... he ended up getting back like $3,000 less than he originally paid for it 10+ years ago.
