Please help...going crazy!! - starting to like Fixer

When I first heard "Fixer", I absolutely hated it. Told my wife it was crap. Then I found myself listening again...and again...

Now I have it stuck in my head! This has never happened to me before with a song that gave me such a negative knee-jerk reaction upon the initial listening. I guess I'll just have to submit and let myself like it as it grows on me.

I don't understand why it's so hard for Pearl Jam fans to like new Pearl Jam material...

They're the same band, doing new things....wouldn't it get boring if every album and song sounded similiar? We're talking about Pearl Jam here, not Godsmack.

*No offense to Godsmack, but their albums sound like one giant song...

It's a contagious song, no doubt about it.. I started out hating it, now I think it's great.

I like the chorus, the repetitiveness of the verses gets annoying by verse 2, and the bridge seems like a cut and paste. While I don't dislike it, I'll never love it.

Yeah, it seems to be having that effect with multiple listens.

Because we are psycho about them.. We love them so much we set our expectations for new material waaay too high when in reality, it takes a while for our brain to process the music and subject it to our lives.

Agreed. Especially on Godsmack, though "voodoo" is a good song still.

Good point. It'll probably flow with the album pretty well. I like the song for what it's worth, obviously it's nothing too deep, and personal...

I just don't set expectations for new PJ, I like to make my judgement when I first listen to it. most of the time high expectations are a recipe for high disappointment.

Yes, we are psycho. But if Metallica fans can still love Metallica after everything they've released, then we shouldn't have a problem with new PJ.

In all honesty, new PJ is much more exciting than new Metallica. :D

Good point. I'm with you on that... bong > spliff > pipe. Thinking of doing something stupid and getting a nice, tall, thick, pricey bong. Right now I'm using a "Highagain" (Heineken) novelty bong my roommate got me for my birthday.

I think this is a great idea!! Wish you guys lived in Chicago, I work in a recording studio and im famous for taking people on the back porch for a session then blasting pj albums in the sonically perfect control room. It's quite an experience. First time I blazed and listened to Yield in there, i almost lost it!

I am totally with you on this one! Although almost all PJ songs/albums have grown on me. I heard this the other day and was like meh..whatever, reminds me of...Unemployable. I even posted a little smack about it, but after like 20 or more listens I am SOLD! I really like the way Ed sounds on this thing! I also learned that it's a Matt C song so maybe that made me chill and give it a chance.

I like the stuff Matt has done.."In the Moonlight", "Get Right" ( Why people hate it I am not sure?) "You Are"...

He (Matt) gives them a different feel IMHO.

So long story short I am DOWN with The Fixer.
