Secondly, I'm getting a little tired with some Pearl Jam fan appreciation. Ed's solo tour was a good example of many people being annoyed with the drunken frat boy-type fan that is yelling requests and singing annoyingly loud. I kind of agree with an old Roger Waters comment from Pink Floyd's hey day... he thought fans should shut up and take in the performance. Now I know Pearl Jam shows are "rock shows" and different than Ed's solo shows, but I still don't want the music onstage drowned out by 20,000 people. I enjoy listening to the Japanese 2003 bootlegs for this reason... the fans are pretty quiet during the songs and applaud after. I understand that there are parts of a Pearl Jam show where Ed turns it over to the crowd to sing... songs like "Better Man", "Black", "Why Go", etc. are examples. Those I'm fine with.
I just think some of the Pearl Jam fan cliches are growing lame and tired. The "yeah" chants at the end of "Alive" is one example. It seems that Pearl Jam fans have more hand gestures ("Small Town") and sound effects ("Even Flow", "Jeremy") than necessary. I just think it's getting carried away.
