I thoroughly enjoy the new single, The Fixer. maybe not as much as Got Some, but I think it's a great sound. I love how Pearl Jam comes at you with something different with every album. Don't worry haters, they'll still play e-flo at every show this year! :-)

And I like the lyrics! :P

"I’ll say your prayers I’ll take your side
I’ll burn as a way to make light
    I’ll dig your grave
    We'll dance and sing
    What’s saved could be
    One last lifetime"

The Fixer is a great tune, not groundbreaking or anything but it is definately enjoyable. It could be the greatest song ever and you would still have 1000 people complaining about it - this board is full of complainers no matter what the band does.

This happens EVERY album I've noticed since I first came to the early boards right before Yield was released.. and I remember people in high school bitching when Vitalogy and No Code came out too..

Seriously, I think the song is great. Like has been said, it's not ground breaking or anything, but a totally fun, rocking song worth celebrating. I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been a more positive response to a song that sounds so fun - where Ed actually sounds happy and positive about life. It's a great change! People just have this kneejerk response to rip it as 'pop'. Who knows, maybe there are a lot of people here who prefer the more negative, pessimistic, or introspective songs -perhaps because they are feeling that way, I don't know. But I for one, really connect with this side of Pearl Jam. I'm at a place in my life where I'm very happy and loving life, and it feels great to crank The Fixer LOUD.

man, I am glad I started this thread! and to quote id rocks, I too "am at a place in my life where I'm very happy and loving life, and it feels great to crank The Fixer LOUD." I can't tell you how many times I have fallen in love with Pearl Jam all over again. I saw KOL in April and I thought they were awesome, as I usually do for most shows I go to. but the next day in my car I was listening to "off he goes" from 6-28-08 Mansfield. Mike played the most beautiful solo at the end. my brother was with me (and usually at PJ shows with me too) and I remember telling him, "you know, no matter how many other bands I see or listen to, it all begins and ends with Pearl Jam for me." his response: "no question."
  • To each their own and with that, I like The Fixer! It threw me off at first. I'm not a big fan but I like it. Their last two albums had singles of World WIde Suicide and Save You. I just couldn't and still can't get into those songs. And I've tried! And with what we heard from Got Some, I'm excited for the new album.

I heard it on the radio today...it's catchy but nothing special. Maybe I'll need to listen to it more.

Good pearl jam song. Very radio friendly. I envy those who has never listened to PJ albums. I imagine someone liking this and trying to find someone who can lend him the albums and listen to them for the first time. Too bad those days are gone, when it was more likely to hear the whole album, instead of downlowding songs individually.

The fixer is a great tune, but i don´t like that eddie repeats the yeah yeah yeah so many times. It would have been better if he only did the chorus one time at the end, but they probably have a blast with this rocker. Who knows. Keep rockin...

    It sounds like....

    Jeff
    Eddie
    Stone
    Mike
    Matt.

It's friendly to my ears so I don't care if it's friendly to the Radio. I've had it on repeat the whole day!! Go the boys. Rock it out!
  • I love The Fixer. A band has to change a little to evolve and keep it fresh. It sounds very polished and almost over produced. I like the change.

I am telling you this song is going to kick live in concert though!!! It will sound more raw and rock and roll. No studio effects to clean it up. I am willing to bet huge sums of money Mike will put an awesome long guitar solo at the end. Sort of like Corduroy studio versus live version sort of way. I feel the solo will have a Get Right solo flavor to it!!

Yesterday I never thought I would like the Fixer , but I have to admit after 3 cups of coffee and the hi-quality version on the ten club player this song has me happy this morning  I don't know how , but every time I think my love affair with Pearl Jam might be coming to an end I get sucked back in .
