my interpretation of the fixer

the last part of the song sounds like the compromises you make going into a long time relationship..."ill say your prayers, ill take your side, ill find a way......" now, i cant imagine compromising my personal beliefs enough to tell a person "ill pray" if it is something i don't believe in, but whatever..... it sounds like a lifelong commitment.. "Ill dig your grave" same as "till death do us part" kind of vow... "we'll dance and sing" kind of a positive way to view the years they will spend together.... the whole song seems to be a promise to be there for someone for the rest of your life and doing everything it takes to make that person happy.... in that way along the same theme as "wishlist".....

now, is it possible that the character in the song is a character in a theme type album? Tommy, Quadrophenia, The Wall, American Idiot, Greendale..... all are character based theme albums... is it possible that The Fixer is a character in an overall story told in Backspacer? the tracklist can read a chapters in a story.... and "got some" easily be read as a character's point of view as well.

now, obviously, i have no idea what I'm talking about, but it is something to think about while every other thread is stating that The fixer is the equivalent to a commercial jingle or a sit com theme song.

I honestly think the fixer is his new wife ( well newer than the old one). Sounds like a thankful upbeat love song.

I just think it's about changing one's attitude and trying to start living life like it's supposed to be. He's "fighting" to get his happiness "back again".

I must express my gratitude at a different themed thread than what has flooded the boards today.
Reading the lyrics at the end, it does seem like the song pushes toward that relationship aspect. Connected with that, I kind of see the earlier parts of the song as reassuring statements from the characters to his love. I love this aspect of Pearl Jam, how these lyrics can mean so many different things to us all, I mean, we all still dissect songs from the vitalogy era. I was sitting yesterday just reading through all the lyrics in vitalogy and no code, and it was amazing how truly beautiful the imagery, coupled with the mystery of the meaning, is of the songs. Obviously that statement is not exclusive to those albums, but I just happened to sit down with those two yesterday.

fire on it~! as he hopes to warm things up but instead burns things down
A reprise to suggest his own selfless reactions destroy the material
A fighter a lover, hanging on to past memories
Eddie is as a broken record in his feeling as are all who dare to play with fire

I will take that into digestion and believe its a fight to get things back that have been lost
happiness, friendship or what was there to save is what the feeling provokes me to do
Come to understanding and grasp whats left in life to make the most of it as we move forward...

Its a reprise in someones life as in they found a new way, when they met with discontent
We take the world within our hands and do whats possible to make right what we know we can influence and perhaps change for the better...

Got Some" to me another song, moment in life where we come to realization... Got some to give as we have some sized detrimental... He has some of all he preaches things to offer and to relate to...
