Don't know if these are up here, I did a quick search. But for those of you interested here you go, for those of you not, have a nice day.

I found it on the net

'The Fixer'

When something’s dark let me shed a little light on it
When something’s cold let me put a little fire on it
If something’s old I wanna put a bit of shine on it
When something’s gone I wanna fight to get it back again
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Fight to get it back again
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

When something’s broke I wanna put a bit of fixin on it
When something’s bored I wanna put a little excited on it
If something’s low I wanna put a little high on it
When something’s lost I wanna fight to get it back again
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Fight to get it back again
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

When signals cross I wanna put a little straight on it
If there’s no love I want to try to love again
I’ll say your prayers I’ll take your side
I’ll burn as a way to make light
I’ll dig your grave
We'll dance and sing
What’s saved could be
One last lifetime

I wonder if Ed's daughter wrote those lyrics...

Sorry, those are complete crappy lyrics.

I like its simplistic childish approach..

I think the lyrics at the end are better though.. I really like them.

"if there’s no love I want to try to love again
I’ll say your prayers I’ll take your side
I’ll burn as a way to make light
    I’ll dig your grave
    We'll dance and sing

    mca47...

The song is written about your favorite baseball team...

    The Fixer'

When something’s dark let me shed a little light on it (1988- Lights added to Wrigley)
When something’s cold let me put a little fire on it (Cubs games in April)
If something’s old I wanna put a bit of shine on it (Renovations to Wrigley?)
When something’s gone I wanna fight to get it back again (1908 is a long time ago)
    Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Fight to get it back again
    Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

    :)

I love the lyrics, I love the simplicity and the hopefulness. Melodic as hell too. A great choice for a first single.

After all these years and all the recent albums with complex songs and uneven tempos I love seeing them go in the direction of more melody and simpler tunes.
"Darkness comes in waves, tell me, why invite it to stay?"

I'm still saying it's "if there's no law, i want to try and love again" showing the band's support of gay rights. First, I hear no V and it makes so much sense for Ed to write that.

"if it's illegal to be in love."

    Did Ed write it?
    It's not typical Ed lyrics...
  • IMHO, and it could be obvious to the point of being stupid to point it out but....

I feel like the simplicity of the beginning of the song is setting the stage (setting the listener up) for the end.

I don't think it's as simple as people are saying... Not trying to over complicate it, but I think that last 4 lines (maybe the burn/light line too) is the key.

I totally see that. The lyrics at the end are very powerful. I think people are missing the point of the song.. Ed just came off writing the lyrics for Into The Wild. I'm sure he didn't just pull these out of his ass.

It kind of seems like it's your typical song about a broken relationship.

i'm wondering the same thing. mike said (a minute ago) that "matt wrote it", but he could have just been talking about the music.
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam
