One of my very favorite writers passed away this evening.

Frank McCourt, who wrote Angela's Ashes, passed away after battling cancer and meningitis. I really feel like he was family. I haven't read a book in my lifetime that affected me the way Angela's Ashes did. And every time I make a long family road trip I pop in the audiotape. His other books were great too but Angela's Ashes will be what he was most remembered for, and it was his best book. If you've never read it you're doing yourself a disservice to not do so. I drank a Guinness tonight in your honor Frankie.

I got to meet him once through him and he was as affable in person as he was in his books. I truly thank him for making me laugh and teaching us about growing up in difficult circumstances.
A true treasure and he will be sadly missed.
Wish you were here...
