What is it with you and Christmas man? Christmas isn't a state holiday anyway

It's a federal holiday just like the rest of them are. Because there are people out there who do want to get rid of Christmas. It's my favorite time of the year starting with Thanksgiving. I just love everything about it. Like spending time with loved ones, being away from work, the weather, the smells, buying presents for people, and waiting for that record that doesn't show up until Easter. ;)

I'll be damned, it is. So if the feds opted for a winter solstice holiday instead of Christmas, it would destroy your ability to enjoy any of the things you just listed between Thanksgiving and New Year's? You can't spend time with loved ones, get time away from work, enjoy the weather and smells and presents unless the government tells you it's ok?

he just doesn't want to have to utilize one of his floating holidays to take off christmas, he wants the day off, guaranteed. ;)

and yea...i read your earlier post and was surprised you were unaware that christmas is indeed a federal holiday. once again, so much for the seperation of church and state eh? :P

I'm all for adding new holidays... only if we don't have to give any other ones up.

No of course not, don't be ridiculous,But I would be really pissed because it would be a prime example how secularism is quickly chipping away at christian values and traditions and the fact that 75% of americans consider themselves christian.Christmas is an a American tradition and is part of our culture like baseball and apple pie. And Christmas has nothing to do with the separation of church and state. If it did it would have never been voted on by congress in the 1800's to become a Federal holiday

don't appreciate the misquote there...as i said none of that.

that said, personally, i really don't believe christmas should be a federal holiday. why? b/c it is a RELIGIOUS holiday. and it doesn't matter if 75% or more consider themselves chirstian or not. bottomline, we as a nation are supposed to be based on religious freedom and seperation of church and state. all the jews and muslims of this country use their 'floating holidays' to get their religious holidays off, and christians should do the same.

and imo it DOES have to do with the seperation of church and state....even if in the 1800s it got voted a federal holiday. our government, even way back then, not infallible.

i don't expect you to agree with me, but it's simply what i believe...

The founding fathers envisioned a robustly Christian yet religiously tolerant america, with churches serving as vital institutions that would eclipse the state in importance. Throughout our nations history, churches have done what no gov. can ever do,namely teach morality and civility. Moral and civil individuals are largely governed by their own sense of right and wrong, and hence have little need for external gov.

This is the real reason the collectivist left hates religion: Churches as institutions compete with the state for the peoples allegiance, and many devout people put their faith in god before their faith in the state. Knowing this secularist wage an ongoing war against religion, chipping away bit by bit at our nations Christian heritage. Christmas itself may soon be a casualty of that war

Just my opinion , But I do respect yours ;)

Why don't we just do away with the word Holliday ? Sense it comes from the word Holly Day :?

seems your opinion reads like a wiki comment.

i don't need a church to teach me morality or civility. and that has nothing to do with the idea of seperation of church and state in any case, so i really don't know why you even bring it up.

christmas is going nowhere...and i hope not...i personally have always loved christmas. i also don't imagine the holiday going away. i am simply saying that, in fairness...in this free from religion government of ours....NO religious holiday should be a 'federal holiday.' it should be a holiday that we get off, if desired, by utilizing floating holidays. i get 10 paid holidays a year. usually 8 are assigned (including christmas and the day after).....and 2 are floating (3 are floating this year since the day after christmas falls on a saturday). i can use those floaters whenever i want. so yea....makes sense. when the jews in our office want to take off for yom kippur, they use one of their floaters....i could easily do the same for christmas, or groundhog day, whatever......

and holiday derives from 'holy day'....yes....and hey, over in the UK, they call vacations holidays. so yea...whatever. i consider my vacation days holy days, so it's all good. next you'll tell me we should stop calling legal marriage, 'marriage'...and just civil unions. ;)

but sure, i agree to disagree on the topic, as i very much expected...:)

  • These new holidays should include animal sacrifice, and... virgins! Something with virgins... and fires.

This could be a good idea.
