Green Day and U2 sell more records than PJ and also put their music in every other commercial on TV. I have no problem with the prices if they keep putting on a great show.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

This EWBTCIAST bitched the whole time to the buy button. But I got that damn PJ Fever again, I'm hooked but refuse to ever pay scalper prices no matter the jones.

Oh, so you think that the band becoming conformists in their older age is normal, and going back on the very essence of what defined them as a band shouldn't be questioned. Very nice. Says a lot about the ME generation.

umm no, I'm saying that battle has been fought and LONG lost. TM won. welcome to the real world.

They are low comparitive to big acts today. it's a fact. They are hardly elton john, Barbara streisand, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, U2, among others.

The front row of any show is 77.00. Maybe the 10c should discontinue tix for a tour. Try getting a front row ticket for 77.00 off TM (ooops sold out) or stubub (ooops, one thousand times face value). pearl Jam and the 10c have strived to make sure the best tickets got into hands of fans....

that, to me is what defines them as a band. the rest is just simple economics.

A concert, once or twice a year, costs the same a football match, it's still a great deal.

    nice burn

if the band didnt' charge 70 bucks or more they wouldn't get the amount of fan club tickets that they do and people would bitch bout that. this isn't 94 anymore stop holding onto something that's been dead for 15 years now.

I have gotten over it and so have the majority of this board. I just dont think it is overly strange that some music journalist out there reacts and puts a spotlight on it. Thats all.

Wow, Wilco with service charges was only $55 for me where Pearl Jam I paid $19.25 in service charges costing me $96.25 (Does anyone really think Live Nation is better then Ticketmaster?).

In all thing considered, Pearl Jam is still lower then most big name bands who are long past their prime. I saw someone mention Fleetwood Mac. The Dead toured and when they played the Spectrum a ticket at face was still more then Pearl Jam's even though Jerry Garcia ain't around anymore.

I wish tickets were cheaper too so I could afford to go to multiple shows, but sometimes you have to appreciate what you got.

So who here isn't willing to pay $75+fees for a PJ show?

    Anyone?

That's why they can charge it.

IMHO, many of you 'me-sters' missed Jeanwah's point, to which I get what she's saying. PJ stood in the face of what sucked with the music industry to now seemingly embrace it. Even Bruce had tiered pricing and he didn't premise his band as fuck the industry. Maybe the redbull and jaeger have clouded reasoning more than the mushrooms WAY back in the 90's.
We bought into the big FU, just seems maybe that direction's changed now. Just my .02! Still love the music, not so much the direction I see.

Its changed cause ticketmaster/livenation have such strong holds on venues that there saying either you charge 70+bucks for fan club tix or you can charge 50 bucks and not get the usual amount of fan club tickets that you would get with charging 70+ bucks

Sold Out: Pearl Jam Tickets Too Expensive? - Today Is/Was July 17, 2009

Moody '90s grunge act Pearl Jam are back on tour selling tickets through their former enemy Ticketmaster, although during the feud, it was Rainbow Ticketmaster. With accusations of a Ticketmaster/Live Nation monopoly, do they really have a choice, especially considering their age and the lack of youthful rebellion?

The tour is in support of their new album 'Backspacer' out Sept. 20 which the only place outside of an indie record store or fan club is at behemoth retailer Target. With tickets at $66 for their Chicago and Seattle shows and $75 for the LA shows, has Pearl Jam completely sold out? And that's before a $12 service charge in addition to online ordering fees. It's enough to make an elderly woman behind the counter In a small town scream.

The tour kicks off in Canada on August 8 with a few dates in Europe before bringing their pearls and jam to the U.S. starting with those pricey shows in in Chicago before heading to Seattle and then California. For a full set of Pearl Jam tour dates, check out Tour Tracker.

One of the nostalgic story lines of the tour is that Pearl Jam will be the last sounds the historic Spectrum Arena will hear. After Pearl Jam's Oct. 28-30 dates, the Philadelphia landmark will be demolished. Tickets for those shows are $77.

Hearts and thoughts, they fade away...

    ha!

no wonder this thread is so long...ticket prices......;)
anyone who thinks a sub-$100 concert ticket for a band of pearl jam's caliber is a 'sellout' price in 2009.....just not dealing with reality imo.

Cant really compare the bands but compare their prices at the same venue the same year :

Gren Day Ticket Prices at the Spectrum this July, worst seat : $25
Pearl Jam Ticket Prices at the Spectrum this October, worst seat : $77

Gren Day Ticket Prices at the Spectrum this July, best seat : $50
Pearl Jam Ticket Prices at the Spectrum this October, best seat : $77

HUGE difference in quality of bands, tour, and music, but also a HUGE difference in price
So you are telling me PJ cant keep prices a little bit lower?

More teenagers than 30-40 yr olds see Green Day, hence why their tickets are cheaper. Most of PJ's fans are 30-40, thus you all can afford freakin $80! You'll live! Don't you all have houses and crap? Computers, cars, children, big screen TVs? Can't you afford an amazing concert thats less than $100?! I'm only saying this because I'm 22 and I can afford this stuff! Stop bitching!

    well said.
i also do not see ticket prices as *the* essence of what defines them as a band. not at all. i also don't see their choices as being conformist either....but absolutely, we all have differing perspectives.

They're low to the bands you've mentioned because those bands are much bigger than PJ. Get real, you're going to compare PJ to Elton John??? Streisand??? The Eagles?? You may as well try and compare them to The Who and the Stones then... (Fleetwood Mac, yeah, maybe...;)
