i have absolutely no idea and have not started any research but i need to replace my dog's toilet....i mean my living room carpet.

its roughly 250 square feet.

can anyone give me a general idea of what i might be looking at? and possibly recommend some stores to check out? those places are not just local right? i know of that Empire place. i wonder if that has decent prices....

anywho...whatever advice/recommendations you can provide is greatly appreciated.

I think you'll probably just have to go to some carpet stores and get some quotes.

I'm also curious. Buying a house next week. :)

I know I googled "how much does it cost to carpet" and I found a Yahoo answer with a range, for a certain SF of house. You could probably find that answer and apply it to your SF.

I have a frame shop, and when someone asks how much to frame something, my general answer is "between $60 and $3,000", because there's a dramatic difference in products... but hopefully carpet has less swings in price.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

Check out this site, looks pretty good. I know I already posted in the other forum but I did forget to add that our rooms are too big and need to be seamed and that costs more. This site kind of explains how it's priced. :)

I work in the Floorcoverings Department Part Time at Menards [A midwest version of Lowes or Home Depot, for those who may not know what it is] so I can help you out a bit.

It depends on the quality of carpet you want to get first. It can range anywhere from 23 cents a square foot up to 3 dollars something a square foot [and even higher too, but i'm going to assume you don't want to pay 5 dollars a square foot]. An average price that's still fairly good quality would be .99/sqft to lets say 1.68/sqft.

Padding [at least what our store carries] costs 36/44/73 cents/sqft.

Our store doesn't do installation, but local contractors generally go anywhere from 40 to 60 cents a square foot for installation.

So, let's say we go somewhere in between on the carpet [priced at 1.19] and mid grade pad [.44] while aiming high for installation [.60] you're looking at $407.50 for the carpet and pad plus $150 for installation, for a total of $557.50.

Granted many things can change the price such as
---the quality of the carpet you choose, affecting the price a square foot[same with the pad]
---installers cost [or if they charge extra to lay pad]
---the actual dimensions of your room.........

You mentioned your room was 250 square feet. Carpet generally comes 12 feet wide, some can be special ordered 15 feet wide. So if your room is close to a 12x21, then go by the prices above. If it's something closer to a 13x19, you'd need two pieces, 12x13 each, where you'd have to seam [again, remember carpet only comes in 12 foot rolls. ] So you're going to have some waste there, a 5x13 piece. [Well technically like two 2 and a halfx13's, but whatever.] So the two 12x13 pieces combined would cost you $371. Then you add the price of pad in and installation again.

But yeah, it will vary, a quote will get you a more accurate price. If you give me your room dimensions i can narrow it down a bit, but it's tough to do unless someone knows exactly what type of pad and carpet you are looking at. Any questions feel free to ask, haha.

edited to fix a few mathematical errors. should be good now, i'm not really 100% at this hour haha. [Oh, and some carpet will come with pad already attached, just remember if you're paying .99/sqft for carpet with attached pad, you're paying for carpet that is worth closer to the quality of .50/sqft, since you're paying for both the carpet and pad, if that makes sense]
