Insurance Lobby's Secret Plan to Attack 'Sicko'

Moore is a bit on and off in my opinion.
Parts of "Bowling for Columbine" is very good, and "Sicko" is good. He has some valid points, although with a pretty ham-handed oand over-emotional delivery.
Fahrenheit 9/11 is just trash-tv and Bush-bashing. Now, I was no fan of Bush, but the movie wasn't much except a 90 minute personal attack, really.
But when it comes to the american health care system, there are several real issues to highlight. He lays on the drama and pathos pretty thick, but he has a point.
Peace

I thought he was spot on with Fahrenheit 9/11. Bush deserved to get bashed. Michael Moore was one of few people in the post 9/11 period with the balls to speak out against these criminal fucks. I think he deserves some respect for that.0 -

Aye, he has balls and Bush may have deserved a bashing.
Respect for speaking out before it was fashionable to do so. As I respect Eddie Vedder for the Bushleaguer shows before it was fashionable.
Still, I didn't like the movie, and it's nothing but 90 minutes of "Bush is stupid and evil". High on emotion, low on content.

Fair enough.
Personally, I wasn't surprised it was high on emotion considering he was talking about a bunch of Rich neo-cons who had pissed on the U.S Constitution and sold America down the shitter with a pack of lies, not to mention the ransacking and devastation of two sovereign nations and millions of dead in the process.
On the content side, he did a good job of highlighting the gross incompetence and greed of Bush et al, and their close ties with the Bin Laden's and Saudi Arabia. Also, some of the footage from Iraq was pretty breathtaking and hadn't been seen before.
I think it's just fashionable/trendy to bash Michael Moore. But like the above article on which this thread is based makes clear, he often hits the nail on the head.

'Fahrenheit 9/11 remains the highest-grossing documentary of all time, taking in close to US$200 million worldwide, including United States box office revenue of US$120 million.'

All the Michael Moore haters - except Jlew - must be away on holiday!0

honestly, i think this is - overall - less about michael moore and a LOT more about the insurance industry, period. i don't think it matters what the fuck you personally think about michael moore. i see it as a healthcare industry insider simply saying, yea....they tried to do what they could to stop information getting out there. it's disturbing that more are not at least semi-alarmed or upset about it. i realize we've grown quite accustomed to such bullshit, but that doesn't mean it still shouldn't piss you the fuck off. we DESERVE better care.Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...

Actually, no, I posted this thread mainly to get a discussion going about Michael Moore and whether, at least in the case of 'Sicko', he was spot on. Unfortunately, becauase this message board has recently been over-run with abusive, ignorant juveniles who have been allowed to return from their previous life-time bans on the old message board, all we mainly got on this thread was that Michael Moore is a 'fat, hateful piece of shit'.
Until this message board ever gets cleaned up we can just expect more of the same.Post edited by Byrnzie on0 -

It was killing you that nobody was paying attention to you wasn't it? You NEED the argument for validation eh?0 -

It's not about paying attention to me. Why do you find it so difficult to take me out of the equation?
This thread is about Michael Moore, the movie 'Sicko' and the health industry. It's not about me.
All you Michael Moore haters have nothing constructive to say because the op has rammed your pathetic insults and criticisms of Michael Moore back down your throats. You have no response to this thread because the truth hurts.0 -

1. Because you kept bumping it practically jumping up and down saying "where are you all, bring it on!"
2. Because that thing is way too long for me to bother reading.
3. Because I can tell from the headline that I'd agree with everything in there, and I've read rundowns of the insurance guy's tell-all interviews and was not remotely surprised at the shit things they are doing. I loathe the insurance industry and think it's the most crooked, disgusting field out there. I don't understand why lawyers are so reviled but nobody talks about the corruption of the insurance industry in America.
4. Even so, Michael Moore is a moron. He's no different from Sean Hannity... selective information to lead to histrionic outrage. I tend to agree with Moore's conclusions more, but his research and arguments are flawed and dishonest. Bush deserved all the smackdowns he ever got, but that doesn't mean Fahrenheit 9/11 was a good documentary... it was crap. There was a goldmine of material to tear the right a new one over that whole thing, and Moore blew it by opting for cheap theatrics and weak circumstantial "evidence" over substance.0 -

Sorry to dent your ego, but this thread wasn't aimed solely at you.0 -

I never claimed it was. I just popped in and saw the overlarge blue font you used to try to bait people and it cracked me up. Vintage Byrnzie!
Anyway, bottom line is health insurance in America = fucked and corrupt, but it's not because Michael Moore says so and he's not a particularly compelling source of authority for any argument (see gun control, America's response to 9/11, health insurance industry). The tell-all information from the former health industry exec is far more interesting than anything Moore has to say on the topic.0 -

That's funny...I thought you just said it was too long for you to bother reading it?0 -
