The best rock radio station in the world essentially going down. Yet another one. Im not that surprised, wbcn is an infinity station which has done everything possible to ruin rock radio. Infinity sucks!

End of 'The Rock of Boston'

On July 14, 2009, CBS Radio announced that the rock format on WBCN would sign off the 104.1 FM frequency on August 13, 2009, and be replaced by Hot Adult Contemporary music, which is currently heard on sister station WBMX, currently known as "Mix 98.5."[3] This will make room for an all-sports talk format at the 98.5 frequency, WBZ-FM. Toucher and Rich will continue to do mornings on 98.5 FM.[4]

WBCN's rock music format will continue via their website, WBCN.com, as well as on 98.5 HD-2.

Sorry to hear it. We lost the only rock/alternative channel in Philly almost ten years ago but still have 'MMR for classic and "modern" (ie, crap) rock.

That really sucks. KROCK in NY switched over to some pop nonsense, one day I tuned in, heard some weird songs and couldnt believe they were gone. They had gone thru some format changes, but the last format they had as KROCK was perfect for me. There are two rock stations left, but neither cuts the mustard for me.

really you dont like 101.9 the rxp. i like it alot more then krock. krock sucked towards the end. they basically turned into the Q and were trying to be somewhat hip by playing a few indie bands. least rxp doesn't play the usual pj hits.

I'm sorry but this made me laugh! Still, sorry to hear about the horrible day. I never listen to the radio 'round here. Nothing but fuckin' pop garbage, and one of the only rock stations plays Nickelback, Avenged Sevenfold, and Daughtry-type shit all the time...

Stern has been predicting for years of the downfall of free radio....and always starting with the rock stations.
  • that sucks man. I live in memphis and they too just took away our only alternative station and replaced it with espn radio. i mainly listen to the classic rock station here but damn it pisses alot of people off

  • This is a travesty. BCN was a great station. Everything in this country is becoming controlled by corporate suits to maximize profit. Good music is another casualty.
