I'm tired of all these articles referencing the President. All this talk about Pearl Jam being "upbeat" now because Obama's the President is retarded. The bulk of the album was written long before he was even nominated.
So this life is sacrifice...

The description of The Fixer sounds a helluva lot more promising than Got Some. Too bad this perfect windows down summer driving song doesn't come out until fall
Did you miss the part of Alan's review where he said the song hit the radio on Monday? :ugeek:

riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggghhhhhttt......... It'd be foolish to think that he's had no effect on the album.
I'm always skeptical of critics and like to weigh in on my own - that being said, I like the tone of this write up and can't wait to hear another "summer drivin" PJ song!
Alan Cross is pretty reputable as far as PJ reviews go - he seems to be a die-hard.
Alan Cross is FAR from a die-hard PJ fan; however, the band and, specifically, management have always treated him well with regards to interview requests (not to mention when Alan was Program Director at Edge 102.1 the station was working with PJ for a festival at Downsview with PJ headlining in '07, i believe it was),...
To quote the 10C from Newsletter #8: "Please understand we have a lot of members and it is very hard to please everybody. If you are one of those unhappy people...please call 1-900-IDN-TCAR."

+1. Also, if you're a Beatles fan at all, it's worth noting that Lennon particularly LOVED Pet Sounds, and you can hear much of its influence on later albums.
I think it's Paul who loved Pet Sounds. Well I'm sure they both did. But I've heard Paul say something along the lines of "every child should be given a copy of Pet Sounds they same way they're given a bible." And the influence shows up more in Paul's songs.
Plus, they'd be promoting the single of "The Fixer", which comes out earlier.
Still, the chances are minimal. Pearl Jam is not their money making priority right now. Pearl Jam is not that big. Maybe, JUST maybe they want to help the single become big to help album sales when it is finally released, but its a far stretch.
While this is not his best review I've ever read, he is still my go-to music news guy. He is absolutely the man if you're into music trivia. The Ongoing History of New Music is the best radio show ever.

funny where it mentions how the Obama administration is doing "wonders" for Eddie's mood. I'm sure it's sarcasm on the journalist's part, but if there is any truth to it, Eddie is one delusional fellow. Pearl Jam comes off, at least to me, like one of those bands that has so many songs with underlying messages concerning the presidency/whoever is in office at the time. and I can see all these titles such as "Backspacer" and "The Fixer" pertaining to just how perfect that people foolishly think Obama is and how he's going to undo certain things Bush did, hence the album title "Backspacer." what the hell else could it possibly mean?

From the Great Turtle Race description of Backspacer:
Pearl Jam has sponsored a turtle who goes by the name of Backspacer. Backspacer joined the Race more for the sake of the journey than the end goal -- she’s taken to the road to think about where she’s been and where she’s headed next.
I think that's more about the album than it is the turtle.

+1. He's certainly the only reason I listen to the Edge these days (especially since I can't, y'know, see Josie Dye when I'm listening to her talk...).

To add to that, I think PJ and Eddie in particular get inspired by current events, but that in no way do they write songs that should be interpreted as about one particular thing. Except Bushleaguer, thats a given.
'Fight to get it back again...' Now I really need to know what the rest of the lyrics are to that song, cos it sounds sweet.

if PJ made a commercial on Targets dollar i have to think Target is pretty excited about their options.
PJ may not be "that" big but who is? they will sell over 250k, maybe 300k in the first week of sales. Very few rock bands can do that these days. very few

There is NO WAY Target would advertise an album that isn't coming out for over two months.
Plus, they'd be promoting the single of "The Fixer", which comes out earlier.
Yes totally missed.
So any idea where it is?
