Hey team -

I'm heading to NYC in a week to visit some friends who are either out there working for the summer or have moved out there. I've never been before, and am from Southern California. What are your recommendations for places I need to make sure to get out to (aside from the obvious tourist-y destinations) - I'm talking about cool local hangouts, and definitely some infamous NYC record stores as Ed has mentioned so many times as being the best in the world. I'm 21, but I don't want any sort of club/bar recommendations as I don't drink and I'm going to meet up w/ my girlfriend so I'm not looking for anything too crazy...sooo yeah. Any tips?

    just walk, walk and walk!
explore greenwich village and soho...can't go wrong there.
have fun, it's a GREAT city!
lucky too, usually we would be knee-deep in our usual sweltering summer humidity, but thus far this year....blissful weather. 8-)
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

I am myself like you somehow

Walking around and absorbing the city is Great!!! It's all I've been doing. It's fantastic stumbling upon everything. :D

Oh, and I keep trying to take credit for the mild weather, the same way I was tellin' everybody I brought the rain with me from Seattle last month. ;)

I agree. There are some really nice views from there.

they just reopened the statue of liberty crown , if youre able to crawl the spiral staircases up there and win the lottery they hold to go up there, its worth the shot, the view is spectacularand it offers a vantage point & perspective not seen everyday .

I would also highly recommend Green- Wood .

A lesser known diamond in the rough , its a certified National Landmark .

Of course the vastness of NYC is infinite.
Just take your time and enjoy, soak it all up .
Of course there are also other shrines of NYC such as Yankee Stadium ( old and new ) ,
The Worlds Most Famous Arena and MSG/ Radio City Music Hall ,
Ground Zero and the WTC site,
    The Metrolpoiltan Museum of Art,
    Central Park .

    Enjoy .

hit up McSorley's...the oldest pub in the city...place is cool as hell...only serve two beers...Dark and Light..both are really good....all kinds of old photos on the walls..they have an original pic of Abe Lincoln drinking at the bar..Definitely worth a stop
