Built your own gear?

Anyone here ever built some of their own gear? Guitar, amps pedals?
I'm interested in getting into this, maybe building an amp, or putting together a Warmoth parts guitar. Been checking out the DIY boards, but I'd like to hear from the PJ fans, what have you built? How did it come out? Did you spend too much or end saving over store bought gear?

I've built a few pedals. Nothing fancy, though. Just stuff like boosters and volume switches. I saved a lot of money by building them myself and also had a lot of fun doing it. Also some of my guitars have been through some major modifications. I guess all I can say is try it out! You also learn a lot that way.

Ended up saving a lot of money had this been a CS order from anywhere!

  • I built a partscaster awhile back with a hwy 1 body and 95 american maple neck. Has fat 50's pups. Sounds really good. Also built a couple of amps, my favorite being a Jones Octal 1, basically a clone of early Fender's using a 6SJ7 preamp tube and single 6V6 output. It's pushing 2 10's in a brownface cab. The cleans are absolutely amazing. If you are into Yellow Ledbetter tone, this is your amp.

  • Built my own 100 watt "Marshall" clone that goes through a 4X12 with Scumback speakers. I A/B it with a 63 Fender Vibroverb Reissue for dirty/clean switching. Very old school and sounds VERY good with just about any guitar....

Thinking about building a 50 watt Marshall type next.
