Riverside

Has anyone heard of Riverside? They're a progressive metal/rock band from Poland. A few people have compared them to Tool. (Not sure if I agree with that however.) I've been listening to them a LOT lately and I can't seem to get past the lyrics and the story that draws me in. So much I can to relate to right now with my current state of life.

"But when that all shattered I felt I'd broken my fall
Couldn't pretend that I felt strong about us anymore
Without that help I finally started to live my own life
And I know I don't need you now
Secret exhibition
Cure for loneliness
Life is much too short to be whiled away with tears
Secret exhibition
Cure for loneliness
I erase you now
I don't need you now
I erase you now with all of my past" -- Second Life Syndrome

In this part, the first four lines are sung as a reprise of an emotional chorus. A line that particularly strikes me is "Life is much too short to be whiled away with tears." I had spent much of this past night crying. Stress of what lies ahead has got tied up into a knot and I am struggling to keep my own sanity. As I have wrote before in a previous topic, some times a line of lyrics will become my theme for awhile, and its possible that this has hit me as the such.

Another thing that has drawn me into the band is their opening to their third album, Rapid Eye Movement. Its a very technical opening and it draws me right into the CD. The song is "Beyond the Eyelids." A very masterful soundscape indeed that reminds me very much of what a lucid dream would feel like.

So, I am going to cut myself off because I am just starting to rant as I have been up all night. Wanted to see if any Jammers like Riverside :) (though a very different style of music I am sure.)

I've heard some of their stuff on Pandora. They've got an interesting style, though I'm not sure I'd compare them to Tool. I like them. Based on your enthusiastic review I may have to check out some of their other work.
It is time to admit that we used to rock like hurricanes. It is time to run for the hills and go round and round. It is time for us to shout at the devil. We've got the right to choose it, there ain't no way we'll lose it, and we're not gonna take it anymore.
