Do you think he'll make any remarks concerning Michael Jackson in these up and coming shows?

  • I doubt it. It seems that he sticks to talking about people he's had a personal realtionship with.

Wasn't he a big fan of the Jacksons when he was growing up? He did make reference to Ben at the end of Rats.

Someone yelled out "Michael Jackson" at Honolulu 1 (or could it have been Maui?) and he talked for a few minutes about growing up and being into the Jackson 5. He said something about one of the other brothers being his favorite 'cause he had the coolest 'fro and he said about MJ "that guy was the real deal" (paraphrasing). He said he'd played Springsteen's Bobby Jean since he couldn't play "Billie Jean".
“I worked really hard on this set. I just told you we’re gonna have a great night, so I don’t need any fuckin’ help from anybody.” EV, 7/2/09

I remember reading in an article somewhere that the first album Ed ever bought was a Jackson 5 album, and he used to sing all the high parts along with MJ when he was a kid. He may make a few references here and there in the upcoming tour, who knows?
Now, if the band covered MJ...that would be something to see.

He moonwalked off the Maui show, but didnt say anything.
Soneone shouted a MJ request in Honolulu and he said he couldnt do it. But spoke about listening to Jackson 5 records in the basement of a Chicago half way house when he was a teenager with his 'little brothers' and said Jermaine (I think) was his favourite cos he had the coolest afro. Said that he was sad when he heard the news, but also added he thought it had been a sad situation for a long time now.

At the first Honolulu show he talked about how he lived in a group home when he was young and lived with some African American kids who played alot of motown and soul and the Jackson 5. He said even when Michael was a boy you could tell he wasn't just some "novelty" that he was "the real fucking deal." He said, though, that Jackie, the oldest, was his favorite because of his "fucking awesome afro." He said that Michael's death was sad, but that "really, it had been sad for a long time," referring I think to all the issues surrounding Michael in life. The thing about Ed playing Springsteen's "Bobby Jean" because he couldn't play "Billie Jean" was true. Before the very last encore, when he as bowing and waving goodbye (and everybody thought it was over) he did do the moonwalk. It was awesome.
