Ticket Prices - a little Story

When a band goes on tour, they can never, ever be too careful. Same thing goes for promoters. If there’s ONE thing you need, it’s insurance against the weird things that can happen.

Take the case of the French man who went to a U2 show in 1993. He snuck past security and found his way around a fence that was set up around the PA system. He watched the show from there. But he was so close to the speakers that ended up going legally deaf. So what did he do? He sued the promoter for negligence. His defence was that the security people should have done a better job of keeping people like him out. And guess what? He WON. The equivalent of $34,000.

THIS is why liability insurance is so important to musicians and promoters–and it help explains why ticket prices are so high.

That's absolutely pathetic. The amount of ridiculous lawsuits that you hear about these days is absolutely absurd - as is the merit behind most of these cases.

That's not why ticket prices are high. The majority of artists and promoters like Live Nation will charge as much as they can get away with (see the Rolling Stones, the Who, U2, and Madonna). That brings the overall average ticket price up. A lot of bands that at least somewhat care about their fans use the average as a bench mark (Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Springsteen). And truthfully, $34,000 is a small claim in the world of insurance and is a small consolation for a total loss of hearing.

Yeah, especially when it was caused by something like U2's music :lol:

I completely agree. This guy takes ZERO responsibility, and points the finger at somebody else. What a shame.

I think ticket prices are high because Ticketmaster and the Artists realized how much scalpers were charging for their tickets. So they decided to raise prices. Scalpers still charged more. Artists raised prices again. Now they sell exclusive VIP for $300 dollars a seat up to $1000 a seat, and ticketmaster has their own scalping website. Plus artists are trying to recoup money that has been lost because everyone steals their music now and nobody pays at all, ever. I saw Paul McCartney because I wanted to see Paul at least once in my life, $250 dollars a seat, next time it will probably be $300 a seat.
Let's see those 2013 dates in the southern states.

AC/DC was charging $95 dollars for every seat in the house. Front row, $95 dollars, nosebleed back row of the arena $95 dollars. How is that fair??

So the people who cant afford ridiculous prices to be front row (i.e could be the biggest fans ever) also get a chance to be front row, not just the rich people..

A band can probably also request tickets be no more than X dollars. But then the promoter will back that out of their pay. PJ did take less money back in the day, but nowadays...
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)
