Is Vieja's the San Diego Embarcadero?

Went to see Radiohead in 2006 at the Embarcadero. Was one of the most awe inspiring shows I have ever seen, both because of the band, but also the scenery. The bay in the background. How it was an open air show. And how when the sun was setting, all the hotels with all crazy like neon lights, started to be seen.

Is this the same location?

    Nope.

I was at that Radiohead show too -- pretty awesome, especially Like Spinning Plates.

Oh snap...I thought it was actually Viejas. I forgot they changed the name of COX to Viejas. I was gonna make a comment that Pearl Jam was officially classic rock if they were playing at Viejas casino.

At least they are not playing the Sports Arena. The acoustics were terrible in that building.

No kidding, beyond terrible. I haven't been to the Viejas/Cox but have heard it's good. :)

It's a nice place...Small by arena standards. Sound is good IMO. Listen to the 2006 boot you will get the idea of the kid of show. It always seems to have a hometown vibe because of Ed and Matt.

Agreed, one of my favorites. ;) Also agree on the vibe. We used to live there so have been to many and it's always a good show. :)

sound is WAY worse @ viejas. it's got a metal roof and the sound just echos inside.
The sports arena, assuming you're not in the nosebleeds is a great venue.

Agree, the sports arena acoustics suck. Very happy they are playing at Cox/Viejas again. Great sound. Listened to the '06 show this morning, it's going to be tough to top that one. The vibe from the audience was amazing.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I think you may have them confused....Sports Arena has the worst acoustics of any venue I've been to.

  • The $4.8 million deal San Diego State University signed 12 years ago with Cox Communications expired June 30. The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, which operates a casino and outlet mall 22 miles away in Alpine, purchased the naming rights for $6 million. Viejas has been a great contributor to the betterment of the San Diego community for many years.
