damn, this is getting ridiculous. it's 90 degrees inside right now. we've had temps at or above 100 for weeks here in Waco & our a/c crapped out about 4-5 weeks ago. our landlord sent a guy over, he tinkered a bit & said that he'd have to order a part. i asked him when he'd be back---and he responded "in 2-3 days". that was over a week ago.

i woke up this morning drenched. this is complete & total bullshit. i've called my landlord & informed him that we are leaving town a day early (tonight) b/c of this. what else can i do?? our landlord is going to meet the a/c guy over here while we're gone until Monday afternoon. should we receive a deduction in rent? what about our electric bill? it was $180.00!! last August (just as hot in Waco, a/c was working fine) it was only $125.

thoughts? suggestions?

I'm not familiar with renting but what does your contract say ? or if it says anything about not supplying heat or a/c

I realize its bullshit to have to deal with it but legally not sure what you can do

These landlords usually hold all the marbles

Couldn't the landlord just boot you out if you did that ?

we plan on doing that once we're done w/ grad school. i love texas, but not the heat.

he said he'd fix it while we're gone. the timing sucks as well...he's was in & out of the hospital for 3 weeks until a couple of days ago. he's a great landlord---this is the 1st issue that we've ever had.

Sorry to hear about that man. My girlfriend and I lived in Atlanta two summers ago, and holy shit...what a miserable heat that was. I can only imagine Texas.

Do you live in an apartment, duplex, etc? Just stick to your guns and tell him what you think would be fair. If this a/c guy is someone he recommended, then maybe you should bring up the fact that he's not too punctual, and you guys are sweating your insides out while your waiting for his "2-3 days" to pass...

Doesn't Chicago get fucking cold as hell in the winter?

It's hard to avoid extreme weather, but you're right...there ARE those places...

There must be a law about this. In cold places, heaters have to be fixed within one day. In hot places, I suspect the Air conditioners also have to be fixed within a short amount of time because it can be dangerous to live without AC in really hot places. (Old folks and kids can DIE.)

Can legal assistance for renters. Even a law school in the area. You should NOT have to wait a week for your AC to be fixed in Texas. :|
