ooh yay. wonder if it not getting there week 1 was because it was released on a friday? aren't most records released on tuesdays here? or is that long since not true?


anyways, i may or may not have just written a letter to the band (dear pearl jam) asking for black in auckland.. FINGERS CROSSED!

I'm trying to find a spare 10C ticket for Auckland for my friend. There's three of us heading up from Wellington.

nah bro, we're lookin' for a spare too. apparently there are heaps of fixers on trademe though.. so my mate is anglin for one from there

JUST POSTED THIS ON ANOTHER THREAD...INTERESTING...

The latest RIP IT UP magazine in NZ is a Pearl Jam special...Eddie is guest editor (but i should stress I would have to use this term loosely, its basically just a small excerpt on ed).....There is a great article on the whole band...a small piece on ed talking about the history of Alive, STBC, off he goes, last kiss and The Fixer...a page of great ed quotes....a review of Backspacer giving it 4/5 and piece that I guess you could call "the essential pearl jam by writer Gina Williams"....

So heres Miss Williams guide to PJ...and I quote....

START HERE= TEN (91) "its complex arrangements recall great years of yore such as Hendrix and Zep, yet it is self-aware enough not to fall into stadium rock territory"

FOLLOW WITH= VITALOGY (94) "vitalogy saw a minimalist, stripped back, original, yet stubborn album"

THEN GET= VS. (93) "a band clearly learning to deal with their newly acquired fame"

THE WILD CARD= RIOT ACT (02) "RA saw PJ retreat to their Vitalogy days, with just the right amount of burly art rock that hits the listener hard"

AVOID= YIELD (98) "despite one non status quo moment on the spoken word "push and pull me", its a rather straightforward effort"

ADVANCED LISTENING= Bootlegs "hundreds to wade through"


End of quotes...back to me...wow is all i can say....AVOID YIELD....one word...WRONG.....!!!
Must say for most PJ fans i think theres really nothing new in this PJ edition of Rip It Up...Pretty disappointing.

i haven't even read the whole thing yet. i hate the layout. it's so ugly. granted it's SLIGHTLY better than real groove (which is pretty much unreadable without taking the content into account)

I have seen this band in 3 continents, countless cities and still NEVER seen Immortality or Footstep........thats is my dream....!!!!

So kiwi wishlist setlist so far includes Black, Take a Walk, Corduroy, Come Back, Of The Girl, In My Tree, Breath, Footsteps, Immortality. Shaping up as a fuckin kick ass setlist I say!

yes it did! It kicked total ass! Imagine it with the whole of Pearl Jam AND the whole of Split Enz, together at last....

may be a bit beyond what the boys can manage but I'm sure Neil and Tim can comply. For us, right? For humanity. (and die hard geeks like us)

Funny how my 2 favourite bands are 1. PJ and 2. Split Enz. Any amalgamation of any kind on 27 Nov is gonna make me a happy little camper.
