Chicago help... any locals?

My bf and I are flying from Calgary to the two Chicago shows. We both got to use our 10c numbers! Neither of us have been to Chicago so we have no idea where to book the hotel. Any suggestions on hotels that are near a lot of touristy things AND close to the United Centre? Or should we just book hotels near touristy things? if so, what's a good area to do that?

How's the public transit in Chicago... should we rent a car?

Any tips would be fab.

  • Use Priceline, name your price of $60, 4 star, Loop area, and you should get the Hyatt Regency. There will be well over 100 jammers to welcome you. :D

Don't rent a car, parking is kind of a bitch in Chicago.
There are taxis everywhere, except late at night after the shows  but you should be able to find one or can call for one.
My daughter does public trans when we are there, I am too lazy to figure it out. It is really easy tho she says.

If that hotel is booked, anyplace in the "loop" is good. If you're flying into O'Hare, you can jump on the blue EL(subway) line and take it right downtown into the loop. You can get to the UC that way, too...with the Medical Center stop. As for renting a car--using the EL, and cabs are much easier than driving through town. Check out this website, as it's a Public Transit one that shows you the best ways to get to anything and everything popular in Chicago, and it also has a trip planner where you can figure out how to get from your hotel to whereever you choose to go. Best of luck, and enjoy Chicago!

This is a great idea! I'm having trouble with the site though... I selected the Millenium Park box, 4-star, then bid $60 but I have to give my credit card info BEFORE it will let me know what's available for that particular Hyatt Regency?

I answered your question on the other thread, but basically, that's the risk. This hotel has over 2,000 rooms though, and it's one of three 4-star hotels in Millenium Park that Priceline has access to - not to mention all the people here who have posted, have posted good news, rather than bad.

I just booked Monday the 24th as I already had Sunday 23rd reserved, and I got the Hyatt. Go for it! It'll work.

I just stayed there myself about a month ago. Fantastic hotel. Two large towers worth of rooms so there should be plenty of space I'd imagine.

  • I got the Holiday Inn Express really cheap through Hotwire. Looks like a nice hotel in the same area.

Any scoop on how this one is?

dont stay near united center. Very unsafe neighborhood. Stabbing highly likely. Stay in the loop and take a cab. You can go to Billy Goats and have a couple of drinks after show and then take cab back to hotel.

i recommend staying at The Peninsula
