I am tired of hearing my favorite band's lead singer be the butt of jokes on sports talk radio EVERY DAMN DAY.

Bad move Ed, you deserve to be bashed on this one.

And let me clarify: If the song was just played at a show and leaked to radio from a bootleg... no problem. In fact it would have been cool. But to record that crap and sell it for a dollar, EV deserves the criticism he is getting.

he was fucking ASKED to write that song..and as corny as it was i don't think he deserves to be criticized for it.

If they had won everyone would be praising him which wouldn't be deserved either.

His song had nothing to do with his team choking.

just leave the fucking guy alone already will ya?!

..and no I'm not jumping to defend him because he is Ed,i am defending him because this is straight-up bullshit.

You're a dnmb a$$. I love that little song. The Cubs screwed it all up. How does he deserve to be bashed for writing an AWESOME anthem for his fav ball team.

You opinion is full of negativity. Keep it to yourself.

I'm sorry but I don't share your logic.

Ernie Banks asked Eddie to write the song....Ed's a life long Cubs Fan as well as a huge fan of Ernie Banks. I think Eddie was honored by the request and simply wrote a song.

Besides...the single was only sold in Chicago so It's hardly a fucking cash grab.

Just a treat to Chicago Cubs fans.

All this talk about curses is bullshit. The Cubs did themselves in this year; just as they have the last 100 years. I love the team and all...But I'm really getting sick of this curse talk.

You can go on blaming Goats,Bartman,Vedder, Full Moons whatever until you are Blue (and Red). in the face....

The only way the Cubs are ever going to win this thing is by play some decent playoff ball for once.

I understand your point about Ernie... if he would have asked me to write a song I might have as well (and I am not a Cubs fan).

If it was a treat to Chicago fans it should have been "free".

I do understand that Ed isn't getting rich off it, but there is just something about the collecting of a buck for it that makes it tacky.

Ed also coached the audience for at least a minute during the shows as how to respond to a chorus they had never even heard before. Very tacky.

My post is not blaming Ed for the Cubs losing as many have accused, that would be ignorant.

My post is blaming Ed for the fact that every sports radio announcer in Chicago now lumps EV in with all of the other stupid curses.

I just don't like hearing guys mocking him on the radio... and the messed up part is that they have every right to.

    The song is a joke.

People outside of Chicago have no idea how big this stupid song is/was here.

Sorry... that is just the way it is.

It was a great night and Ed singing that song along with the story was cool! If it gained popularity its because it was in demand. Don't knock a musician/ singer for that, its what they do. He was asked to write a song and he did, and sang it live, then it caught on. Big deal, It's fun, thats it.

It was a great night and what I would give to be back in Chicago singing along with Eddie!

a free cd?...who woulda paid for it to be recorded, produced, and created? ed? ernie? the record company? the cubs?

i get the sarcasm but im all for more ed shows...he needs to give the south some love...id drive to tampa...

this is really smart, blame a musician for a baseball team being shitty...very inteligent, no wonder sports radio is talking about it. blah blah blah....shut up and listen to something else, like pearl jam!
I shit and I stink, I'm real, join the club...
  • At least the lyrics of the song are still relevant. It's not like the song says "The Cubs will go all the way in the 2008 season." It's "SOMEDAY we'll go away."
Can't escape from the common rule...

Horse shit! Who fucking cares what some slob on the radio says? Ed made the song for Ernie fucking Banks and the north side of Chicago. He then pulled it out as a special treat at his solo show.

When he was here in Santa Cruz he did the same thing. He wrote a song about Santa Cruz and coached the crowd on the chorus. The difference is...the Cubs won their division and the song grew legs. Santa Cruz... unfortunately... did not make the playoffs this year.

Ed just had a successfull solo album/tour...I don't think he needed to "cashed in" on this one.

    Bad call by you!!!

Depending on who you listen to that lead singer is the butt of a lot of jokes. I am sure he is way past caring for sports jocks, journalists and fellow musicians. He is an easy target really. Poor little Eddie.

People like you who feel personally let down by him writing a song about his team and for some reason letting it get beyond the special free little club your mind has created (How many album sales!?) are more worrying. He does not need the money or your blessing. Perhaps more importantly the man has given more to charity than a lot of people. Give him a break and get over yourself.

And let me clarify: My favorite band is Right Said Fred and I would have preferred it if they had kept I'm Too Sexy to just us, the REAL fans.
Phoney Beatle mania has bitten the dust...

You are right, I am wrong.

But when you align yourself so deeply with a band (i.e. your family, co-workers, neighboors friends all think of YOU everytime they hear anything about PJ), it kind of sucks when Ed does something that might not be the coolest thing in the world.

I overeacted and I bash the band too much here on this board.

If it were a perfect world he might have handled the recording and distribution of the record in a little different (circa 1997) way.

    No big deal.

    Peace.

    Honestly.. people care about this?

It was a song he was asked to throw together during his tour. Nowhere in the song does it claim the Cubs are going all the way, but that they someday will..

There are more important things to stress over than why or why not Eddie Vedder wrote and released a song.
