With the secondary ticket market becoming extremely watered down with low rent scalpers on ebay and stubhub, recently I have begun to wish the 10c didn't sell tickets.
It is VERY easy to get great seats to a concert for a band that tours regularly.
The ONLY shows that have lots of big time scalping going on are "out of the ordinary shows". IE a Led Zep reunion, an underestimated Hannah Montana tour, or if PJ played a club show.
Otherwise, all of the small time scalpers buy up all of the tickets... and 99% of the time the supply exceeds the demand on ebay, stubhub and the other sites.
It happens to all of the other acts that tour at least every other year. I take my wife to "her" shows all of the time, never worse than 10th row, and never more than a tad over face value... often for less than face. She always asks me (at PJ shows for example: why we are Row 32 for an Ed Ved solo show, in a theatre, for my favorite act ever, in my damn hometown)... When she gets to sit upfront for any show she even cares to see.
If PJ toured in '09 without 10c tickets, by 2010 (the intial tour without 10c tickets might crank up demand and yield the scaplers big profits but it would die off after the first tour) you could get tickets in the first 10 rows to most PJ concerts for under $100 a ticket.
This coming from a 10c member who has seen tons of shows, joined the 10c before he was eligible for a driver's license, spent over thousands and thousands of dollars following this band around.... and has never been in the first 12 rows for a PJ show.
I have had plenty of nice seats on the side or twenty five rows back for PJ but never up front. I work very hard for my money and am lucky to make a decent living and I would love to pay to be upfront just once (or twice, ha).
Just my two cents.
Save your "why don't you quit the 10c and that is one seat closer I get" responses.
For all the Ten Club does for us.....you're complaining.
I'd like to quote some very famous people when I say "You Can't Always Get What You Want"
I had terrible seats to see Pearl Jam at MSG I this year. And I mean terrible! However, it was an amazing set and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I sat 8th row at Eddie Solo in Newark, and since I'm only 16 (hate to admit that) the only way of me getting to NEWARK from Staten Island, New York was for me to have either one of my friends drive me there or take my mom with my other Ten Club ticket. None of my friends are big enough of Pearl Jam/Eddie fans to drive me all the way out to Newark to see a show they weren't really sure about, so I ended up taking my mom (or should I say her taking me )
who is actually a pretty big fan of Eddie's, but not like any of us on here, more of the casual listener. Well that night transformed her, and now her six CD changer in her Mazda is filled with Pearl Jam discs.
I guess what I'm trying to say is to wait. You're time will come, by some streak of lucky events; as will hopefully mine, as I've NEVER sat front row at a concert and I've been to quite a few.
That being said I feel for you, because you've obviously been around here longer then I have, and respected and loved the band for longer too.
I do think the prices for tickets would shoot up in those areas and stay there. As in, in the thousands.
Just my opinions I guess.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
Id love to know what shows you go to where it is VERY easy to get seats up front.
Remember, PJ is an arena act that regularly sells out, and truthfully, there are only a handful of rock acts that are comparable. And their popularity is growing.
Make no mistake, if it wasnt for the 10c securing "up front tickets" the average fan would have very little chance at getting them. Maybe in Iowa that might be true, but thats about it.

I would have to disagree with "their popularity is growing". Are you trying to tell me they are more popular now, than they were in 1994-1995?

no thats not what he said. he said they are GROWING in popularity, not that they are more popular now then ever before. Their popularity went down for a while, but now it's rising again is what he's trying to say.

I think so. More people than ever are seeing them live. Also, as far as this post goes. All I needed to do was read the first couple lines. No. Keep everything the way it is. Getting tix through the 10 Club, and talking to fans in line waiting to get said tix at the show is always a good time meeting people that are just as nuts as yourself.

It sure is harder to get a ticket now than it was in 2000.
the increased exposure from "Pearl Jam" increased their popularity. No question.
absolutely
their concerts are as popular as ever, even though their music isn't
plus there are tons of us that go to lots of showing, helping demand go up

I thought the world...Turns out the world thought me
Though I wished they made more "Binaural-like" albums so more people got turned off and they would go back into obscurity and would play smaller venues. But that's just me being selfish.
Try going to the few GA shows they have, that's how I got up close, IE Irving Plaza, Vic, Lolla, and Bonnaroo. I'll exclude DC 08 when I won the lottery and got 2nd row center. Other than that my seats have been at best 15th row... in Canada...
And PJ has enough fans where if they didn't do 10C tickets you would never, EVER get a front row ticket for under $100 dollars, unless you got extremely lucky and beat out all the scalper programs on ticketmaster, which I highly doubt.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

you are assuming front row tix would be released by TM for an onsale.
A question for the OP - once you had your 10c tickets did you NOT try the public on sale for the chance at 'better' seats? I'm curious. 10c has a limited number of seats, spread out everywhere so you're REALLY limiting your chance at GREAT seats if you used 10c exclusively.
For public on sale you see your seats straight away. If you pull the first 10 rows on TM and passed them by, well, duh. I have a hard time scoring 10c tickets because I'm in the NYC area and they get SNAPPED up. The few shows I have gotten tickets I'm sure I could have done better with the public sale but I was fine with the chance for 10c to do better for me. I'm not remotely pissed, disappointed or complaining that they didn't. I took the chance and I saved the effort from the public sales.
Oh, and PJ still kicked my azz - no matter where my seats were.
I love, love, love, the Ten Club and would never NOT be a member, however that being said...the best tix for a PJ show that I have ever bought were 6th row in Seattle off of Ticketbastard. I just got lucky. Which is not usually the case, my luck I mean!!
If I knew where it was, I would take you there....there's much more than this.
www.myspace.com/kryslowe
very true, ticketbastard would probably auction them off to make even more money.
Psst - come 1/1/09 TM will not be selling tickets to LiveNation concerts. LiveNation is opening its own ticketing outlets. Should be interesting to see what happens then.....
Trust me, I'll take my chances with 10c any day of the tour.....

If the 10C stopped selling tickets, the demand for close seats would go up, as would the prices. Some people here would enter the resale market in search of the seats the used to get from the 10C, so I doubt there would be many bargains.
I'd rather go thru a 10C presale, as opposed to competing with scalpers on TM for good seats.
Psst - come 1/1/09 TM will not be selling tickets to LiveNation concerts. LiveNation is opening its own ticketing outlets. Should be interesting to see what happens then.....
Trust me, I'll take my chances with 10c any day of the tour.....
ok i've been confused by this since live nation came out. Isn't it just an off shoot of TM? I mean when you go to the live nation pages it has ticketmaster right up in the top corner of the page. And there's been concerts where I could either go to tm or ln, and i assume that they were drawing tickets from the same pool. eh whatever,
I agree I'll stick with 10 club.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?
Look, the bottom line of all the arguing is that there are spoiled members out there who will cry if they are in the second row or behind. They are not satisfied until they are up Ed's ass. I have only been a fan club member myself for only a few months and have unfortunately for myself only been to 2 PJ shows. Both shows tickets were purchased through TM and I hate the fees too. But I was thankful that I could even go to the show period. I'm the guy who relies on the boots to enjoy shows. I'm not fortunate enough to follow the band around through 9 or 10 cities and then complain that they didn't taste Ed's sweat from the front row. Bottom line, be thankful for what you get, cause most of you have had better seats than I can imagine, and that's great, but don't bitch about it.

Here's the biggest problem with your "theory"... fans of Pearl Jam have and would continue to pay big bucks ($100 and more) to site close (first 10 rows or even futher back) to see this band tour... so the demand for good and great seats would never wane and would get greater as the years edged closer to Pearl Jam's inevitable "retirement".

Pssst- TM doesn't control most of the major venue sales in Philly anymore (Comcasttix does) and the prices and fees haven't dropped much if at all... so don't get your hopes up for lower fees with Live Nation.

No, LN is doing everything on its own now. Its agreement with TM ends 12/31/08. They apparently don't get along. HA HA HA!
There's another post quoting my message talking about fees- I think these moves will raise fees but I wasn't trying to bring the fees issue out with my post.
