I've just finished reading a book of short stories by Graham Greene called '21 Stories' - very good little book.

I'm wondering who people think are some of the best short story writers.

I love the short stories of Bukowski - 'Ejaculations, Exhibitions, and General Tales of Ordinary Madness'. Also, Paul Bowles, Albert Camus, and Flannery O'Connor.

Good list...Raymond Carver should always be at or near the top of a list like this. Other notables that come to mind include Anton Chekhov, ZZ Packer and of course Hemingway..

    and crack you up

Jhumpa Lahiri's "Interpreter of Maladies" is fantastic. I love Flannery O'Connor, too.

    I'll check out "21 Stories."

How could I forget Raymond Carver? I'm an idiot.

Adam Haslett, "You Are Not a Stranger Here." Very very good.

I was gonna say this. Not a big reader here, but I remember "dissecting" some of his stuff in high school.
