He made a few mistakes and false starts, seemed like he was kind of making things up as he went as far as the setlist went. Playing things as they came to mind. Was in very good spirits. Said the last show of the tour was always a big deal, but usually the second last gig was the better one, which he was detirmined not to change this time. At one point he tried to throw a pick to a particular fan and missed, then threw another and missed again to which he said 'Mike McCready is really good at this' - which i found really funny. Also said that the good thing about the financial situation was that no big businesses could mess Hawaii up any more building more hotels. Messed up the first verse for Crazy Mary and asked the crowd for the words, then got the guy up who helped him to sit in front of him on stage in case he messed up again. Had Mark Richards come out and start Hard Sun, which went for about 10 mins, with Ed rocking out upfront with the crowd.

I'm soooo bumed I missed this one due to being out to sea.. Holding on to thought of being able to PJ in DEC. Hope that news bit was true...
  • Okay you guys,
From Maui to Oahu 1 to Oahu 2, the shoes just kept getting better! Like the crescendo on Porch, it just kept building to the point of an adrenaline trip. Ed pulled out all the stops on this one with Crazy Mary being the highlight of the night. His words were something to the sort "I've been involved in many playings of this song, but I just learned the chord progression today, and what a beautiful chord progression it is"... Wow! First time Ed playing it and singing it without a bottle to pass around. Euphoric! Hawaii 78 was the 2nd highlight and Boom was intense during this song when he pointed to the Hawaiian landscape mural behind him on 2 different occasions. Cry for the lands that have been taken away! No doubt that the soul has been tattooed from this trip. Thank you Ed! Thank you Pearl Jamily.

And in the famous words of Jack Shit, "Alright you guys, WE NEED TO PULL IT TOGETHER!" (Falling on ass)

First off, the show itself was hands down the best Ed show that I've ever seen, and I'm pretty confident it was the best show he's played in all three tours. We had second row seats on the side, but since row one was just two seats, we were basically front row! Long (but amazing) story short, we were able to lean against the stage for the final encore, which led to me helping Ed with the lyrics to Crazy Mary, and ultimately being invited to sit in front of him on stage for the whole song! The whole experience was absolutely amazing. I've been a huge fan since PJ first became a band and have had the good fortune of being able to see them/him live about 40 times. I've racked my brain and I can't think of anything greater that has ever happened to me, so, without trying to be too dramatic, this was the single greatest moment of my life! When I woke up the next morning I had to make sure I still had the Corona bottle that Ed gave me after the song to make sure it wasn't a dream! (It was half full, so the way I see it is that I shared a beer with Eddie fucking Vedder!) I'm thinking of retiring as a PJ fan after all this because how can I ever top this?!?!?!? THANK YOU EDDIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice job helping him with the lyrics KC :)

Thanks! BTW, if ANYONE has ANY pics of me on stage, I'd love a copy! I know security was pretty lax towards the end of the show and they were allowing pictures, so please, please, please let me know if you have anything at all! My pal was able to take a few but with no flash, so I'm just a silhouette. There's gotta be something out there, right?!?

Can somebody tell me what the "Speed of Sound" song was? Was it actually Ed covering Coldplay? And if so, was it just a snipet like all of the "Brain Damage" plays this tour, or was it the full length song?

    Thanks.

Speed of Sound is a new song---not a Coldplay cover. it's rumored to be on the new record.

As far as Brain Damage goes...from what I understand, he played a bit of it, not the whole song, before leading into Sometimes.

  • KC- My wife and I were sitting next to you guys in the second row, and we all talked a bit at the show. You rocked the lyrics up there...nice work! I gotta agree with you. Best show ever! I'd somehow preserve that beer bottle; I'm gonna frame Eddie's harmonica and pick that EV gave me at the show. I've been to 22 shows since 1992 (not as much as you, I know  ), including the "Singles" world premiere, and this was the best I can remember. Good luck on a pic or video of the show - there's gotta be something out there. Anyway, cheers to you and all the fans that were there...we experienced something incredible!!!!

o.k. as Im reading this to hubby I could not even get all the way through reading this without crying. You described it exactly how it felt. Boom's Hawaiian intensity was so strong it gave me chills and reading about it just made me cry.
But thanks for the last line ...... we just laughed our asses off.

Cheers, brother! I had a great time rocking row two with you guys! One of the best things about being a PJ fan is meeting all kinds of great people from all over the place. I'm definitely gonna frame the bottle but I'd really like to do it with a picture if I can find one. You have to send me a picture of what you do with the harmonica when you frame it!

    Hello!
Long time lurker and maybe second time poster here and I'm crawling out from under my rock on this rare occasion to share one or two cool things about these shows and PJ fans.
First off I'll chime in and sing harmony to how special these shows seemed. I saw Ed's west coast tour 3 times and have seen him solo twice before at two outstanding benefit shows and in my opinion these were by far the best I've seen. He cleared most all the "hope he plays this one " songs I wanted to hear the first night and the second night just kept going places I never imagined but was thrilled to be taken. Hawaii '78 alone was worth the whole trip. Goosebumps...
Secondly, I'm lucky enough to call KC a friend of mine. We ended up sitting next to him at the first of the 3 SF 2006 shows and after the show he said "look for us in line tomorrrow, we'll save you a spot" he did, we had another great time and he did the same thing for us the next night too. KC is the kind of fan we all can really appreciate. He totally "gets it". The music, the message, and most of all the friendy family vibe that we are all so fortunate this band really brings out in us. In the years since we've traveled up north to attend Bridge School with him twice, he's come down here for the 2 Ed shows at the Wiltern and The Who's VH1 thingy and we went back east last year for 3 shows in the great Northeast {you Boston fans rock by the way}. KC has a 5 digit fan club number while mine is in the low 200,000 area, the dude has given me his tickets and taken mine, given me setlists that were handed to him by roadies, put picks in my hand that he caught from Mike and Ed and all in all been one of the best friends anyone could ask for. And as no small aside KC is a firefighter that saves people's lives for a living.
So, on the second night when we were allowed to get right up next to the stage and Ed had lyric trouble, KC was exactly what Ed called him. "That guy who knows what he talking about". It could not have happend to a better person. Simply good karma working here. That Corona bottle is now back in California and I know it will be framed up and treasured. BTW he gave me a drag on it also so really Ed, KC and I shared a beer ;). I couldn't have been more stoked to see that whole thing happen...
Another quick shout out to "pearljam623", the couple sitting next to us. Both very cool easy going people. Both teachers, more PJ fans working in a job that helps make the world a better place. Again I think karma had much to do with Ed's harmonica ending up where it did....
I had another great time like I always do, both because of how special Ed and Pearl Jam are and how many wonderful people I've met along the way and shared some of the best moments of my life with.
Peace and Love to you all,
    Dave

This was by far the most incredible performance I have ever seen (I've seen Eddie solo 7 times now). My husband and I met Boom outside the venue and he signed our tickets and chatted for about 10 mins. He is incredibly humble and extremely nice. We asked him if he was going onstage again and he said "yea", then we asked if he would be there for more then one song, and he grins and says "yes, but don't tell, it's a suprise". He's really cool :) We went in and sat down. Eddie comes out and says he was always so happy to have tickets to the last night of a tour because it will be the best.... Then he says, as it ends up, the 2nd to last night is always the best (crowd is audibly dissapointed). He then states, being conscious of this factor, he's gonna make sure he tops night 1 (crowd cheers). And top it he did..The best version , hands down, of No Ceiling I've ever heard; tons of improv, both with the guitar and vocally. Broken Hearted was beautiful, first time I've heard it live, and I loved it. Speed of Sound (off the new Album) was really good! After only hearing it once I know I love it. I can't really remember any of the lyrics (sorry) but I know part of the chorus is something like "waiting all night on an answer that never comes". Don't quote me, but I think that's it. You're True, which I LOVE, was so full of emotion, he introduced it saying the woman in the song came around just in time. And then, the highlight of Hawaii for me...Crazy Mary...and halfway through the song, Boom runs out on stage (Liam comes to the drums) and the song turns into an unbeleiveable jam!!! Crazy Mary has never been one of my absolute favorites, but I'm telling you it was incredible! Oh my God what a treat!!! Hawaii 78 was even better then night one (which I didn't believe was even possible). Boom was wiping tears away at the end and they performed in front of a beautiful painted backdrop cloth of Hawaii (ocean with mountain at sunset). It was so beautiful combined with the song that some people in the crowd gasped (including me) when it was revealed as the song began. I feel so fortunate to have been able to experience these shows. My husband and I deceided to go on a whim the week before. We always wanted to go to Hawaii but didn't think we would be able to manage it at this point in our lives, but decided to go for it anyway! One of the best decisions we ever made, I couldn't be happier, Thank you so much Eddie, Boom, Liam and Tavana!!! I'll never forget these experiences!!!

What do you guys think the possibility is that Ten Club would release bootlegs if we begged them enough? I emailed them and was told they had no plans to do so as of yet. But do you think they would react to our wished and demands? I think its worth a shot.

I haven't been on here very long, but I believe the proper response here is "bump"

I've had Hawaii 78, Crazy Mary (takes 1 and 2) and others stuck in my head for days now...This was truly a special night and a recording is so worth it for this show! If there is some effort we can make, count me in...

Okay... I'm back on the mainland, now. I just want to chime in about one incredible week out on the Islands.
The trio set of shows were pretty damn amazing. We got a pretty good mix of just about everything. I would have to say that 'Crazy Mary' was a definate unexpected treat. Liam's 'surf rendition' of 'Lead Balloon' was also memorable. 'Hawaii '78' was almost considered a gimme... but, still... gave me chills. It was also nice to see Boom and Mark, again.
I thought the audience at all 3 shows were very respectful... then again, I have the April Fool's Wiltern Shows as comparison... so for all I know, the people in Hawaii were horrible. But, compared to the Wiltern... it was a roomful of angels.
Being in the company with such good friends... and meeting so many really nice people only adds to the overall experience. I feel fortunate to have met such wonderful people whom have turned into lifelong friends.
The only downside would be Joni from Down Under... I hope she finds a path towards a speedy and full recovery.
    ...
gonna try to keep the Hawaii Sytle goin' here in L.A. But, it was a bit of a reality check, leaving the sands of Waikiki to come home to a nasty-ass box of kitty litter (my neighbor will feed my critters while I'm out.. but, she ain't doin' no cat boxes).
    Aloha and Mahalo.
