that is what I contemplating in my head the last week as an offer.....I ABSOLUTELY do not want to part with my benaroya vinyl (b/c all I buy the past few years is vinyl)....but I'm thinking there are numerous people out there with amazing 10c #'s and have been front row numerous times that would give up there front row seats for one show for a chance at a benaroya vinyl......my 10c number is 289XXX.......what do you think? how would we be able to seal the deal (how would the person know they had front row) except for hours before the show?

there isn't any way to know where your tickets are until hours before the show, making something like this difficult, if not impossible, to organize. someone was auctioning off their good seniority spare for charity awhile ago... maybe the trend will continue.

and what if they keep the lottery in place? you could potentially trade your Benaroya, and your 10c seats to someone who hits the lotto with your tix... while you end up a few rows back to accommodate the lottery seats. unlikely, yes... but it's totally something that would happen to me ;) .

is there some extra lottery for the TO show? I thought it was all seniority.

It is seniority for the Toronto show. But few season ticket holder's at various events (who are not 10club member's) have the first few row's reserved. And many, many 10club member's don't even visit the message boards. It's just luck my friend.

i didn't get tix through 10c for the last tour... so i don't know  , but did they say ahead of time that they were doing the lottery or was it just like, the best surprise ever for people who got upgraded?

They said it ahead of time, but you didn't find out whether you were selected, until you opened your ticket envelope and saw the good (or expected) news.

I think if you put up a sign at the line entering the venue "IF YOU GET FRONT ROW TICKETS, I will give you my Benny Vinyl AND my 289xxx tickets" that you may have some bites, but you won't know until the last moment.

Also what if someone gets front row, but last seats on the side? I'd rather get 3rd or 4th row in the center... so you may want to come up with a map of seats, and really figure out which seats you want rather than arbitrarily "front row", which could be seats off to the side past the band.

It might even be worth doing inside the venue - where people with tickets will already be there... but before the seats. It'll be too damn hard for someone sitting at the front row to trade that all away, I would imagine.

Good point. I'd just carry a sign -- will trade Benny Hall vinyl and my fan club seats for your great seats -- and see what comes of it.

there isnt any piece of memorabilia, vinyl, posters, backstage passes, etc. that I would trade front row tickets for, and I have actually been up there 3 times.

unless you walked up to me and said "here is the key to the Pearl Jam vault where all the band's live shows are located," you're keeping your 289xxx seats.

    Each person is different.

Now with the lottery (is that still happening) it's even rarer. It'll make it much harder to get a front row, versus a 3rd row.

I've been front row once (and Ed chatted to me - it's on a boot) but 3rd row is 98% as good! 3rd row probably has a little bit better sound frankly, because when you're up front, the speakers above and to the sides are pointing at the people behind you, not at you... so it may not be as intense front row.

I'd recommend taking 5th row dead center, and progressively work your way up, and a wider radius of seats.

    Good luck!

Actually I would too if I had been front row three times. I've never been closer than about 10th, and that was because of GA ('95).

    Good luck to OP.

agreed. this is based on a price that is way the fuck outta control for vinyl. front row seats are priceless. i had them twice in 2003. STL and KC. i can say the memories far outlast what any vinyl could do.

its still a helluva offer though and i'd go out as someone had suggested with a sign and just see what happens. maybe camp out by the 10c ticket window and see if you get lucky, or busted or both.

i was front row only once, pittsburgh 06, and second row a hell of a bunch of times too... and you are right, the front rown, hell even being within the first 5 rows is too priceless to give up for any type of pj gear.

I hope you have some luck with this, not a bad idea. If I was going to the show and had front row I would swap it in a heart beat. There has to be someone else out there like me.

it wasnt my intent to brag. I just thought it made a stronger point to say that I have been there and I still WOULD NOT trade away front row tix. I doubt it will ever happen again unless 10C goes back to the block system, so definitely not bragging.

That is what I was thinking, in posting. He just kept on getting shot down about how no one would do it, just wanted to let him know there are some out there that would. I have been front row for all the GA shows I attended back in the day, the europe shows I caught and then twice since they went to seats. It is a blast, but I have more fun a few rows back where I can see the audience reactions and get a better view of the entire stage.

But we each have our preferences I guess.

I forget which tour it was and how the blocks were broken down, but here is an example of how it worked. For fan club number 1 - 100XXX they had the first 10 rows and it was first come first serve for the day of the show. you would go up with your receipt and they would grab you the best seats for your block at the time you show up. Then 101XXX - 200XXX would have the next 10 rows and so on.

Again, I don't remember how the blocks were broken out, but hopefully you get the idea.

back in the day (2000 and 2003 tours) the 10C used to allocate seats to a block of 10C numbers. within that block, seats were first come first serve.

for example (these numbers are made up), at a given show:

    Block 1: 0 - 150,000
    Block 2: 150,001 - 200,000
    Block 3: 200,001 - 250,000
    Block 4: 250,001 - 300,000
    Block 5: 350,001 - 400,000
    Block 6: 400,001 +

so Block 1 might have rows 1-5, within that Block of tickets, it was first come, first serve. so if #150,000 gets to the ticket window before the other members in his Block, he will have closer seats.

    hope that makes sense.

Makes plenty of sense. It would be nice if they brought that back, with lotteries within the blocks. Kind of a blend of seniority, and no seniority, if you will.

that part of it was cool, but getting to the venue as early as possible, sitting in line, and wasting the whole day would suck now. it was fine when I was in college, but not anymore. the pre-determined seats are better.

they could do lottery within the block, like you said, as long as its pre-determined.

(started typing but got sidetracked - now posting)

It varies a little, depending on the quantity of seats in each venue, but they get a block of tickets... lets say the first block is a section of 415 of the closest tickets. And they take the lowest 415 member number, and save those tickets for that block of members. Then so on for the sections behind them....

Now, if you have a member number of 145xxx, and if there are less than 415 people with lower numbers than you, you will be in that first block, however your PLACEMENT in that block depends on what time you pick up the tickets.... if you're the last of the 415 people in your block, you get the worst tickets in your block. If you're the first in your block to pick up tickets, you get the best tickets in your block.

This caused long lines back in 2003 as early as 12 noon.

Now the tickets are based only on your member number, with the exception being for the lottery winners.

so how can this possibly be pulled off without bringing the benaroya to the show itself? I like the idea of day of the show offer but I don't feel like carrying the vinyl around the amphitheatre in the event no deal can be found.....

Sadly, I'd say it can't be pulled off without bringing it to the show. Maybe if you're driving to the show you can leave it in your car?
