Dead Man Walking

One way to help with the natural sounding voicing is to speak to someone in the room. Have a friend sit in with you while you record your VO's and tell them your story. They can reply to you with simple nod's so you get the feeling of having a real conversation or if you have someone who shares the same passion, they can talk with you on the podcast (wingman). Reading always seems forced (on television and radio) so unless you're going for that style it is best to improvise. No doubt it's hard at the start but stick with it and it will become much easier in the coming episodes. I also understand what you're saying about the non-words (umms & ahhs) but sometimes they seem much more natural than a cookie cutter script.

Just my 2 cents...Again, great stuff. I've been listening to these all day at work. Love the selection.

Thanks for the 2 cents. Just curious, do you work in media or a related industry? Your advice and criticism seems to be a bit more thought out than the standard, "You suck. Your voice sounds stupid."

I work at a television station. I was working on the tv side for 2 years and now I'm on the web side (3 years)...yes, we do podcasts

Well, you'll have to give #8 a listen when I post it Wednesday. I took your advice and only worked off a rough outline instead of a comprehensive script. It wasn't too painful but I kept the commentary intentionally short to make it easier for now. I think it's still listenable but it'll definitely take some getting used to doing these without my safety net. And I'm sure it'll get easier and better with time. Thanks for the professional constructive criticism and the challenge to push myself to be a better podcaster.
