Generally I like Jeff Buckley, in fact I think Hallelujah might be the single best male vocal on a single song ever! Anyways, does anyone have or know of any rare or obscure tracks or demos that can be shared? Thanks in advance. I'm looking for more Buckley out there....

There was a small set of CD's he did with some other guy. It's been many years since I've listened to them. I have them but gave them only a once-over listen. They were ok, but not the brilliance that is on Grace.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

His "Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk" album was kind a diamond in the rough. From what I'd read it wasn't complete and the label released them anyway. I didn't care for it all that much. He also has an official live cd "Live at Sin-E" which was pretty good. But in my opinion "Grace" is a must have album, the others, not so much.

There's a deluxe version of Grace out there with a bunch of outtakes, including the song 'Forget Her'. It's truly a great song, the label was pushing it to be the first single off of Grace, but for some reason Buckley wanted to leave it off of the album completely.

Sketches is definately an unfinished project but there are some gems on there like The Sky is a Landfill, Vancouver, Morning Theft, Yard of Blonde Girls, and Satisfied Mind.

Also, Live at Sin-e is a must have.

Yeah, check out "Sketches", and the stuff he did with Gary Lucas (I think that's his name?)

Also, there is some live Jeff that is floating around out there that is definitely worth getting your hands on.

Also there is a Legacy Edition of Live at Sin-e (which I love :D ) that includes most of the shows and some chat where as the initial version I believe was an EP.

Also Mystery White Boy and Live at L'Olympia.
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

How "unknown" is unknown? As someone who was a huge fan back when the man was still alive (and lucky enough to see him perform, truly amazing), there's a LOT of stuff out there... most easily accessible now, some not. Here's starting points and a few obscure tracks worth tracking down:

Grace (Legacy Edition): 2 discs with many solid outtakes like Forget Her, Lost Highway, I Want Someone Badly, Kanga-Roo, and the "Road Version" of Eternal Life. It took me AGES to find all these tracks in '95 and now you have them all on one disc!
Live At Sin-E (Legacy Edition): 2 discs that are basically a true early Buckley solo show, right down to the talking and jokes between songs. Lots of great covers... Van Morrison, Nina Simone...
Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk: Rough and unfinished but still essential listening.
Mystery White Boy: A live soundboard compilation and the best of many live discs out there. Includes a couple amazing orginals (What Will You Say, I Woke Up In A Strange Place) that never appeared on a studio album.
Live In Chicago (DVD): The only filmed Buckley show and it's a scorcher. No fancy camera work, just a great band, great songs, and that amazing voice.

Of course there's tons of other releases out there, but most of them are only worthwhile if you're a huge fan. Fortunately, the Internet and iTunes allow you to cherry-pick the highlights, so definitely check these out:

So Real, Last Goodbye, and Lover You Should've Come Over (Live & Acoustic In Japan) - Three stunning acoustic reworkings that equal or better the Grace versions. From the "So Real" and "Eternal Life" import singles. So Real is on iTunes, the others are not but probably out there somewhere.

I Know It's Over (Live on WNEW) - Unreleased highlight from the so-so "So Real: Songs From Jeff Buckley" compilation. Jeff makes Morissey sound ever sadder, if possible.

We All Fall In Love Sometimes - Unreleased outtake now on the "My Sister's Keeper" soundtrack. An Elton John/Bernie Taupin song that Jeff performs solo... fantastic, obviously.

Farewell Angelina (Live on WFMU with Gary Lucas) - 8-min Bob Dylan cover! From a very rare WMFU comp called They Came, They Played, They Blocked The Driveway. Hard to find but well worth it. (And MUCH better than the wretched barrel-scraping "Songs To No One" comp that Lucas released without the permission of the Buckley estate.)

    Good luck, happy hunting!

I could be wrong about this but I think the documentary, Amazing Grace, has finally been released. I think there are a couple of songs on there that haven't been released before. I could be wrong about this but I saw it at Best Buy the other day and remember thinking there was some material on there I had never heard before.

Actually a previously unknown version of a Buckley song just appeared on a new soundtrack for that new chick-flick with Cameron Diaz. It's a cover of Elton John's "We All Fall in Love Sometimes". See info on it here, and yes, it can be downloaded on itunes:

Good looking out, I was just about to post this! For those so hungry for ANYTHING new or unheard from Jeff, this is of course good. Can't help though but have mixed feelings about it because we know this was nothing Jeff ever planned to release or have heard by the public. But there are so few kernels of unheard music out there, we'll take what we can get!

Also, the amazing photographer and mutual muse to Jeff, Merri Cyr, is doing some sort of Jeff tribute, I assume in honor of the (I can't believe) 20 yr anniversary of his passing coming up in 2017. Check it out, and if you ever met him or have any Jeff memorabelia, respond to her... if it doesn't open there, the info is on her "blog":

    http://merricyr.tumblr.com/

If you don't know who she is, she did the photo/anecdote book (essential to any Jeff Buckley fanatic collection) "A Wished For Song" :

  • He did a duet with Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) called All Flowers In Time Bend Toward The Sun. It's never been released officially but it really should be

NPR are streaming Jeff's cover of Dylan's "Just Like A Woman". Of course, it's beautiful.
I can't wait for 'You and I' to come out
