I'm going to be in Milwaukee July 10/11 to catch a game at Miller Park as part of a side trip from a week in Chicago. I've never been to Milwaukee and don't know much about what to do and where to go. I know Miller Park is outside of downtown, but I'd like to get a hotel downtown and be around the downtown area. Is that a good idea? Is there any kind of public transit from downtown to the game? Are there some good bars, restaurants, and things to do in the downtown area? Looking for any reccomendations or pointers. Thanks in advance.

I went to Summerfest a couple years ago, and I took the bus from the airport right into town, got off at my hotel. Nice and cheap. They also had free shuttle buses that you could take from downtown to the Summerfest site. I remember using a website where you can figure out bus routes to a variety of places. I think if you google a bit you can get the site that will help you figure out routes.

If you like New Orleans style food you should go to Maxie's Supper Club for a dinner...the only other one is in Ithaca, NY (which is where my wife and I got engaged) and we try to eat there everytime we get the chance. Other than that whenever we finally go to Milwaukee we want to consume lots of food containing meat-like substances like the 5 Brewers sausages.

Miller Park is west of downtown and Summerfest is east, on the lake. I'm pretty sure that some of the drinking establishments offer shuttles to Miller Park on game day. There are plenty of bars in the downtown area, clustered together. Here is a good site for bars: http://brewcityreview.com/ it has a map http://www.brewcityreview.com/mke.bars/ ... =us&zoom=8 .

If you're a big beer person, skip the Miller Brewery Tour and head to Lake Front Brewery. It's north of downtown, costs $6 but you get 4 sample pours and keep your pint glass. Plus it's just better beer and a much better tour.

There's also a great dive bar on the south side of town called Koz's Mini Bowl. They have mini bowling. It's very fun for a bit. Plus, PBR on tap. It doesn't have a website, but you can google it for some information.

And if you like Wilco, you can visit the site where they took the photo for their latest album cover. It's right by the Bradley Center. http://www.madersrestaurant.com/

  • I realize that it is August and the original poster has completed their trip but I just had to say that Milwaukee is a great place to visit. We were there last year to see EV play solo. We had a great time. The pre show party was excellent. Met Patrick Redeyes there. The show was excellent. Went to the fantastic Modern Art Museum. Took a boat trip on the River. Had tons of great beer and food (Especially German food). We even caught the dedication of the "Bronze Fonz". Cool.

Also, as previously mentioned, take the bus from the airport. It is an inexpensive and interesting trip.
    Hold On

    I love this reply. :)

I think I saw you again right b4 you left after the show. I was sitting outside of Mo's with a buddy of mine. I was so tired and still buzzed from the whole day of events. Thank you for coming to Milwaukee, glad you had fun. :)

I think one of the best parts about milwaukee was meeting Patrick, what a nice guy!!!

Of course the Spotted Cow isn't half bad either. I can't wait to drink some again someday.

We went to New Glarus' new brewery a couple months back. It's gigantic and beautiful. Their output is going to increase dramatically and rumors are that this could lead to out of state distribution again. Mayhaps not out to Colorado, but you never know. I live in Illinois on the Wisconsin border, and the closest liquor store is actually just 3 minutes into Wisconsin. The guy gave me a startling (and undoubtedly exaggerated) figure of the percentage of his business is Illinoisans coming across to buy New Glarus beers, and he is worried what will happen to his business if we can get it anywhere in Illinois.

I wish I would've saved more Dancing Man instead of having to wait until next year...
