Kings Of Leon in Berlin ...

Saw Kings Of Leon in Berlin past saturday. My first time and it seams my last time.
They played in a huge arena - i guess there where 12000 poeple and everything was very clean.
I mean we talk about a ROCK CONCERT.....
And KOL played like they where in hurry. Each song sounds like the songs fom the CD.
I saw PJ many times and they have had always a great show, nothing like circus - just a pure rock concert + they are close to the fans..., how close they can be from stage !

Think their show loses something in the big arena translation. The 2 times I saw them at small clubs they were unreal. The last 2 times I saw them at MSG and The Spectrum the shows were ho hum-and very rushed. Plus playing the same set list every night doesn't help me want to see them again either.

I still think KOL can make some decent music if they go back to what go them to the position they're in....BUT....I agree, the recent US tour was a joke. They need to refocus.

Hmm this is an interesting thread. I really want to see them here in CO and I am trying everyday to get tickets. I have never seen them before and assumed they would put on a really good show. Now I don't know. They are playing Red Rocks in August. Its not exactly a big arena or a small club. I wonder how they will be?

If you haven't seen them I would go check them out. But one time will be enough.

Okay that helps. I will try to get tickets mostly because its at Red Rocks. This way if I miss out it won't be that big of a deal...its not like its the same as missing out on PJ in the town you live in. :D

I saw the Spectrum and MSG shows also...and I agree with the consensus here. The flashing lights on stage were terrible too...

It really is a shame...their first two albums are awesome. I think they have sold out...their last album has too many ballads and slow crappy songs.

and why they play charmer live at almost every show is beyond me...that could be the worst song ever made

plus they have moved up to arenas to quickly, they dont have enough songs yet

Im sorry you had a bad experience :(
I love them live, I saw them in Miami last month and it was such a great show! We are going to see them again in ACL and then driving to ATL the weekend after.
Maybe it was because it was a festival?
You should give them one more shot, maybe at one of their shows rather than a festival.

    +1
they are overtoured by now, Jared has said it already he is sick of touring, and mind you thats the only way you make the bucks but they have been on the road forever, they need a break to rest and spend time with their friends and families.

I have never seen a disappointing show at Red Rocks yet! I've seen KOL a few times. Although they are probably tired of the touring by now, Red Rocks always seams to boost the level of play out of most performers imo. Who wouldn't love to be there! I would go if I were you. I'm me and I'm going ;) .

    Hey Mrs. Vedder,
no, it wasn´t a festival - just KOL and a opener.
I have all the albums of KOL, and actually i love the songs - but the show was a disappointment.
Next time i hope they use a smaller arena/hall....

PJ never changed their image though. KOL used to be scruffy dudes that just rocked. Now they are clean shaving pretty boys that are playing love songs. The last album, excpet for Closer and Crawl, is awful. At the shows I saw the new songs are the ones the crowd was most into. It was disappointing.

ok... i am a fairly huge pearl jam fan... what is a good album by KOL for me to get to try to see what all the fuss is about? i have heard maybe two KOL songs in my life, was fairly luke-warm about them, but i am sure i must be missing something.

anyone have any thoughts as to what i should check out??

someone mentioned they didn't have enough songs yet to be playing arenas so soon. i disagree - they have four albums, plus several b-sides as well. the problem, as someone also mentioned, is that they don't change the setlist up at all. They keep playing the same 20 or so songs each night, when they've got about 30 more that they could be rotating in as well.

i do prefer them in a smaller setting, because it makes the show so much better. they just need to switch things up a bit, or at least expand the show beyond the 90-minute mark. it wouldn't kill them to play for a couple hours. they definitely have the catalog for that.

Aha Shake Heartbreak and Youth and Young Manhood are both incredible albums...the third and fourth albums, Only by the Night and Because of the Times, are not that good (in my opinion).

Probably the best time(s) I saw them was when they opened for PJ in Australia. Half empty arenas, but they were awesome. I saw them 4 times and didn't get sick of them. Last time they were back here was pretty lacklustre, which is sad.

I saw them in San Fran at the Bill Graham Civic, it was my first KOL show and I thought it was great. That is an awesome venue to see a show. I was up front on the rail and had a really enjoyable time - snagged a pick from Caleb and a drumstick. However, I get the frustrations with the repetative setlists. They do need to change it up more often. They have a decent amount of songs in their catalog but don't utilize it.

Best live song by them is Four Kicks. Heavy stuff. Great lyrics. It rocks live.

well yes, they do tour a lot, but they are a lot bigger in Europe than they are in the US, and they have been playing arena shows there for a while.
As for not enough songs, you do know that they have 4 albums? not just the 1 or 2 that you may have heard?

it was evident when i saw them in an arena show in Australia earlier this year that most people only knew the latest album, and some of the older songs did not get the respose that they deserved, the crowd was there 2 hear 2 songs, and quite a lot left after they heard them. That is a sydney crowd for you as well...
