I would say that his is probably the most famous death since Di (is that the biggest?). What people seem to be forgetting is that nobody gave 2 shits about Michael Jackson aside from his freak show antics from 1993 until the day he died. He had some good songs and he was a famous, strange, disturbed individual. I know that my life remains completely unaffected by his death less the few minutes of my life that I will never get back since I felt the need to comment here.

Sad to hear you wasted so much time here however he was a pretty solid giver to many charities so was Di.

Good for him. We should stop all real news reporting for a week every time someone who donates to charity dies. I liked his music, but that thing that he turned himself into in the last 20 years is something that should not be celebrated. I think that it's a sad comment on our society when someone like Michael Jackson is so revered simply because of his celebrity.

Interesting it appears though many more people liked him than disliked him. Besides now it's all about his children now what's done is done.

So that we can start discussing Michael Jackson the human being????
And his trial for child molesting???
And his out of court settlement($28 million) to not have charges of child molesting brought against him???
Can we discuss his self mutilation over the last 20 years?
Can we discuss the fact that I dont believe he is the biological father of those kids?? Or am I missing something here?? He is supposed to be the father of those kids....right??? Because those kids dont look the way they are supposed to look if he is the biological father.....right??? Or is it a fact that he is not the biological father??? What am i missing????

The same guy, who had his home torn apart two times, in 93 and 2005. The only time the LAPD most likely did their job thoroughly.'
The LAPD and investigators, found NO wierd videotapes, no incriminating photos. No incriminating diary entries or documents in MJ's possession. They didnt find any dirty websites on his computer. They didnt find anything.
People always say he is a child molester. I am fine if you can present some damning evidence. I watched both trials intensely. I dont remember one shred of evidence beyond the original accusation.
Its odd to me, that people would call MJ a child molestor without evidence. If there was evidence, thats one thing.
But as I said, investigators brought this to trial, obviously high. Not one shred of evidence.
lets also discuss the mother of the accuser. Who I remember well. The courtroom, the jurors, the attendees at the court dates, all found her to be a liar. Thats why Michael was aquitted. I remember hearing multiple times htat the court erupted in laughs after many of her statements on stand. She is a documented liar. George Lopez said she approached him as to wanting more money, after he gave her some. Jay Leno said the same.
She had her son and others call MJ "daddy". Why would you call MJ "daddy"?
She stated on stand that she was held captive on Neverland and that she worried her family would be kidnapped on a hot air balloon by Michael jackson.
Lets also discuss the odd behavior of the DA. he said, when they arrested him "we finally got him". One of the oddest things a DA has ever said, and extremly unprofessional. Obviously they didnt have him.
There wasnt a single piece of evidence presented at the 93 or 2005 trials that linked Michael to the crimes.
I'm baffled by the kid scenario too..obviously Jackson can't be the biological father as the kids are straight up pure white, right?

The death of Diana, Princess of Wales constituted the biggest threat to the monarchy since the deposition of James II in 1688, if not the execution of Charles I in 1649. There was powerful republican sentiment in Britain in 1997 that would have enormous consitutional implications not only for the future of the United Kingdom but also for the Commonwealth.
Michael Jackson's death and the media circus which has followed makes for a lot of sound and fury, but what does it signify in historical terms? I mean, really? Anyone who lacks the sense of historical perspective here is a first class nincompoop, in my book.
As for Kurt Cobain, his death left a gaping hole in the music scene for years. He was a spearhead of a generational shift in meaningful art. Michael Jackson was the most successful entertainer of his day, and of all time in terms of radio friendly shifted units, but his active relevance to his contemporary milieu was almost a decade over, in all honesty, by the turn of this new century. His death, though sad to many, didn't suddenly cut off a wellspring of abundant and prolific productivity that continued right up until the last minute to shape other people's work. Jackson was an icon of a former age. Cobain was an artist of the moment. One represented a self-styled majesty of pop, and the other gave a voice to its at-the-time needed antithesis among millions of disaffected and marginalised people who weren't represented by the press.
If you judge the size of the loss of a public figure by the media hoopla surrounding their passing, without intelligently assessing what that death actually means in terms of its implications for the world left in their wake, then you're just attracted to bright shiny things.
I love it.....
and honestly, while it's sad that a human left this world too early(50 is young! I'm 11 years from it!), his death means nothing to me. He wasn't a friend, he wasn't my family. Just another obituary.
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

The young Michael Jackson is for me a Motown equivalent of Gary Coleman. Gary Coleman stayed cool, though, in a midget-sized, curmudgeonly sort of way.

Wasn't Princess Di herself the biggest threat to the Monarchy? I always thought the royal family saw her as a reckless person. I don't know, I don't follow pseudo-heads of state. Wake me up when a real leader dies or makes some news. Those were nice historical references, however the Monarchy had much more power and the British Empire had a much larger global influence then. Not so much now.
You want to talk media hype, lets talk Cobain giving "a voice to its at-the-time needed antithesis among millions of disaffected and marginalised people who weren't represented by the press." Oh brother. Stop watching Vh1 documentaries and you can take that "Forever 27" poster down from your wall now. I understand he meant a lot to a lot of people but his appeal and influence did not reach far past the alt/rock crowd. Judging by how this country regards "geniuses" who die young, killing himself was Cobain's best career move. A strategically placed death of a lot of young stars can vault them to the stratosphere of so called fame and influence. I think Cobain benefited from this more than people are willing to admit on this board.
When millions of people worldwide stop for a second to grieve the passing of one person, I consider that culturally and historically significant.
I dont own a tv so I dont know if its All MJ all the time, but some people have suggested this is one of those major music deaths like those of Lennon or Cobain, one where we remember where we were when it occurred.
Some have even suggested the outpouring of grief and nonstop coverage is the most extensive since Princess Di was killed.
Is this accurate?
biggest death?
my uncle's death was more important/significant than MJ and diana combined
all this shit tells me is that the mass media of today is ruining people's lives
it's fucking pathetic
I wasn't sad when Diana died, in fact I don't even remember it. I will sure remember when Michael died....I loved his music and his dancing! Oh well, may he rest in peace!

Thats all you got? After 12 plus years of the LAPD trying to pin this guy down, and as I said combing through every square inch of michael's house/computer/rooms all you have to show for it is a "secret bedroom"? Wow, incriminating stuff. I tremble just thinking about it!
I love how people refuse to accept he was innocent. Again, someone, anyone, identify for me please evidence presented in court, that linked MJ to any crime? I'd love to hear it.
This is a person the LAPD accused of child molestation. If he was, and I obviously think he was innocent, he was one of the most bizaare ones ever. As his home and computer didnt have a single item related to that behavior.

additionally, its not like Neverland was some small residence and its not like its owner was someone known for being frugal and a penny pincher. He spent a ton of money. So, to think Neverland would have odd or strange rooms doesnt seem all that out of the question. I mean the property owned by him, was like 1,500-2,000 acres. So it was a massive property. I am sure Bill Gates has some odd or strange rooms in his house.

Features of Bill Gates House
The house occupies 50,000 square feet on 5.15 acre land. Garage space and outbuildings occupy an additional 16,000 square feet A 17 × 60 foot (5.1 × 18.2 metre) swimming pool, which has an underwater music system and a fossil-motif floor Swimmers can dive under a glass wall and emerge outdoors by a terrace Lights automatically come on when you enter a room Speakers are hidden beneath the wallpaper to allow music to follow from room to room Visitors to the residence are surveyed and given a microchip upon entrance. This small chip sends signals throughout the house, and a given room’s temperature and other conditions will change according to preset user preferences grand staircase large private library with a domed reading room formal dining room exercise room outdoor sports courts Property records indicate eight bedrooms and four building levels Much of the Bill Gates house is built underground into the hill, so the house looks smaller than it actually is. The beach sand on the bank of the lake is not from Lake Washington, it is barged in annually from a tropical beach in St. Lucia The wood columns from main floor to roof in entry area are over 70 feet tall Some of the interior passage doors weigh over 800 lbs, but are balanced for easy use The roofing is stainless steel Hidden cameras are everywhere, including the interior stone walls Gates insisted on saving a 40 year old maple adjacent to the driveway. The tree is monitored electronically 24 hours per day via computer. If it seems dry, it gets just the right amount of water automatically delivered All woodwork is flawless. Much of the woodwork is of various rare types from all over the world – imported especially for this house The theater (underground in a concrete shell) is the most state of the art theatre in the world according to specialty contractor WorthMy mate Billy actually purchased the plot of land for $2million back in 1988. After 7 years of intensive makeovers; according to King County public records, as of 2005, the total assessed value of the property (land and house) is $200 million, and the annual property tax is $991,000. I imagine it’s probably worth more than that now.

A secret childrens bedroom is the tip of the iceberg. While I don't have evidence presented in court (and I hope that you don't either), I'm pretty sure that Michael had a good team of people whose job it was to clean up after his indiscretions. When a 12 year old claims he went on a honeymoon to Cannes with MJ and they proceed to lock themselves in a hotel room with "the flu" while his mom and sister shop in Italy with MJs credit card, there just is something that is not right with that situation. But you're right -- he was proven innocent in court and he purchased his way out of the other court case so its my bad -- he's a great guy.
However, let me ask you this simple question: If you had a 12 year old kid and Michael Jackson called you up and asked you if he can hang out with your kid, would you let him?
1/12/1879, 4/8/1156, 2/6/1977, who gives a shit, ...
what Cannes hotel vacation are you refering to? Honestly, I cant remember anything like that.
And I dont think MJ was a pedophile.
Maybe I said it in this thread or one of the other multiple MJ threads. Maybe its just me, maybe I'm odd. But I have to have evidence before I say someone is a pedophile. I guess thats something me and you disagree on songburst. Otherwise anyone can be accused of anything, and be convicted and found guilty based on anything. I dont thing thats a good thing.
If he was this vicious pedophile, who by definition molested more than one boy, why wouldnt the investigators have found a single incriminating item anywhere? Dont you find that odd? You hear investigators in every single one of those TV shows like FBI Files or 48 hours mystery or American Justice or whatever, they always say, "criminals always leave behind clues, there is no perfect crime". So its said that michael jackson presumably molested many kids, yet not one single piece of evidence beyond this "secret bedroom" was found?
I will answer your question, with a question, if someone, a non famous person, a non odd and strange and wierd person, your average joe, was accused of what MJ was accused of. And investigators, tore this mans house apart. They searched his house, his computer, his room, his photos, his videos etc... and they found NOTHING, would you say that person was innocent, or guilty. Say also this person went to trial, and no evidence to suggest he was guilty was ever presented. Say also that the accusers mother was mentally unbalanced and claimed that this man tried to abduct her in a hot air balloon. Say also this mother had a history of lying. Of lying in court. Of lying about abuse. And that she had tried to squeeze money out of other people and had sued a store, and said security there had sexually assaulted her. Say also she had lied about said sexual assault. Would you find this man guilty?
Additionally, Michael jackson publicly said he let his kids sleep in the same bed with barry Gibbs from the Bee Gees. Unless I see you calling for police to arrest the Bee Gees, you sir are guilty yourself, of hypocrisy.
if your gonna accuse someone of something I think you have to have evidence. otherwise its just an accusation, and in terms of calling someone a pedophile, its a serious one.
If police had found a videotape of MJ and some boy doing stuff, or found some wierd sites on his computer, then thats one thing. But they didnt find any of that.
Thats whats so odd about this whole thing. I can call you, songburst and murderer, but I need evidence to make that case. I need evidence. Whats odd and wrong about the MJ case, is people accused him of this, and no evidence was needed, people like you called him and continue to call the guy a pedophile.
It also begs the question, if you think Barry Gibbs can sleep in a bed with kids and not do anything bad to them, than you can also say that MJ can do the same. Either you think all adults who sleep in beds with children are peodphiles, or you think none are. Its all or none.
So are you gonna call the FBI to investigate Barry Gibbs or should I?

Hendrix hated Motown as well, after years of suffering the inanity of the Chitlin circuit. He said it was "synthetic soul". I agree 100%.
I've got news for you. I'm not aware of any VH1 documentaries about any artist. I was around at the time. I wasn't even a fan of Nirvana. I was a bit too old and blase to it, even then. However, I saw the lack of musical ideas that followed in his wake. Everyone moved along and started listening to Blur and Oasis because there was nothing but shite coming out of America after Kurt Cobain died, for a few years. MJ croaks and people start playing a couple of dance hits from Off The Wall.
The monarchy is a pseudo-head of state? Jesus. Well, you said it yourself, you don't follow things like that.
When millions of people grieve vicariously for a stranger, sure, it's significant, but more from an anthropological or socio-psychological perspective than anything else. In terms of media hysteria, MJ's funeral - a nice little earner for someone or other - topped Diana's. The outpouring of mass faux-grief was tackier, bigger, and more downright sickbag-clutching than Diana's, but it didn't threaten the constitutional makeup of an entire society. Anyone who thinks it did is bonkers.
Additionally a "honeymoon" How could MJ and this kid go on a honeymoon? MJ and the kid were obviously not married
That's what the kid called it. This is the first one that accused MJ of molestation. The one who got paid $23M to go away. The kid drew MJs genitals and ass complete with locations of blotches that matched up perfectly. The kid said that MJ masturbated him with his hand and with his mouth and that it was their special secret. Part of the settlement included that the boy was not allowed to testify against MJ and by state law he wasn't obligated to do so.
Anyway, I really could care less about MJ. The guy had some decent tunes and he was an abonination in terms of being a human being. Good riddance.
1/12/1879, 4/8/1156, 2/6/1977, who gives a shit, ...
Thanks, musicismylife and Songburst for a fun debate to read.
The thing to me that is interesting is that many of the same people who if you mentioned Michael Jackson to them on 6/24, they would have cringed, made a child molester joke, or talked about him becoming white. 6/25 all these same people are talking about is what a genius musician he was. Just be consistent, people and media!

I am waiting for somebody to tell me that enough time has passed for people to grieve his passing.....
So I can finally post what i really thought about Michael Jackson......
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I heard you were a big fan..... Seriously, to borrow a phrase from you Speedy, the guy had some decent hits, but I didn't give a Rat's Ass about the funeral coverage, which in today's Daily News lasted to page 15.

Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
There wasnt a single piece of evidence presented at the 93 or 2005 trials that linked Michael to the crimes.

and honestly, while it's sad that a human left this world too early(50 is young! I'm 11 years from it!), his death means nothing to me. He wasn't a friend, he wasn't my family. Just another obituary.

biggest death?
my uncle's death was more important/significant than MJ and diana combined
all this shit tells me is that the mass media of today is ruining people's lives
it's fucking pathetic

Yep, I mean, anyone who has a secret bedroom must be a molestor and pedophile. I mean, he was probably a communist as well.
give me a break friend.
Very well said!
"What a stupid lamb."

additionally, its not like Neverland was some small residence and its not like its owner was someone known for being frugal and a penny pincher.
Peace

However, let me ask you this simple question: If you had a 12 year old kid and Michael Jackson called you up and asked you if he can hang out with your kid, would you let him?
Additionally a "honeymoon" How could MJ and this kid go on a honeymoon? MJ and the kid were obviously not married
