Does anyone know where I can get Rosetta Stone cheap?

I'm studying abroad in Italy for fall semester... I paid for a two week crash course, but I realllllyyy want Rosetta Stone Italian, just Part 1 is fine. All I can find is 10% off and free shipping. I can't afford near $300, under $200 ($150 would sell me) I would pay for. I also don't want to torrent (STEAL) $300 worth of intellectual property, so please don't suggest that.

I know probably few of you have paid for Rosetta Stone, but I just wanted to tap this board for knowledge you guys might have!

Thanks in advance.

    Hard to say.

I think if you find it for $150 it's likely to be stolen or pirated.

What about your job? My company offers them to their employees free of charge (I'm going to re-learn Spanish).
If they don't you should see if they'd look into it. I know a lot of companies are doing that now.

Oops, I didn't really read the whole thing...

    :D
  • This might be just me personally but I tried rosetta stone for Japanese and Chinese and found it to be kinda ineffective. Given I only used it for a few hours. I just felt like it wasn't helpful at all.

I have no idea where you could get it on the cheap. Sorry! Good luck finding a deal though.

I believe 10% is the best you're going to find. My friend's husband works for them, and the best I've ever seen from them has been 10%. Nothing more.

I've never paid for software 'intellectual property' as you call it, and I never plan to.

Anyway, isn't Pimsleur the best language learning software/course? I 'stole' [torrented] both Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone, and Pimsleur is the best. It's also considered to be the best one out there if you read the reviews online.

Actually that is not a bad idea, I wonder if I can still use them even though I'm not going abroad for company related purposes (I have an internship with an accounting firm that I know has the software).

I checked my local libraries... the software has been pulled by the company within the last two years. :(

I cannot and will not torrent something worth $300. First of all, I don't want to get slammed with fees (people on campus have been getting busted for downloading cheap music, can't imagine for taking expense software). If I ever get caught, that will not look good trying to enter the accounting field, which is already under enough ethical scrutiny. Believe whatever you want, but torrenting illegally is the same as going to the store and walking out with the box in your hand. I only torrent taped shows not available for sale.

Thanks for all the advice, looks like 10% is the best I can get. But I will check with HR to see if I can borrow it from work!

if all else fails most italians know english... just learn the basics from a little conversational translations book... know how to say "i want that" and your common polite things and greetings... the rest you can kindof pick up along the way... i guess im kindof a dumb american for not putting forth a greater effort, but i tried really hard when the situation demanded... any spanish experience?

OceansJenny, I have found many good software pkgs at great prices at a legit site called Journey'sEd that caters to students and educators. Good luck.

I don't know, it's pretty expensive wherever I see it. I guess it must be a good though.
