Looks like Shaq is going to the Cavs for Wallace & 2 others. Does this put Clev over the top? Shaq & Lebron?
Could make them #1 or could implode.

I love Shaq but my one complaint about him,....the dude has now played for 5 teams! I'm not big fan of that. Especially a hall of famer jumping around. Yes, some were trades and out of his control. But I guess im old school and like a player sticking with his team. The ONE & only thing I like about Kobe

Seems this should almost make them the favorite for next year. I know Shaq is at the end of his career but I think he'll be just what LeBron needs to get over the hump. His presence under the basket will make a huge difference.

I'll always remember Kobe as a Charlotte Hornet and him being thoroughly disgusted after being drafted by them and having to wear their hat on draft night.

Apparently, he remembers that day fondly too as Nike is releasing sneakers commemorating that night:

Gretzky played for five teams, if you count the W.H.A.

shaq won't put them over the top ... shaq is the kind of player you build around - he's not an added piece ... the suns were leading the western conference when they traded for him ... now - look at them ...

When he was younger yes, at his age and the fact he plays half a season you can't build around him. When Miami won, he was a supporting player to Wade and he will be again for James.

  • I love Shaq, but I don't see this working. It's going to take a few games to get into a rhythm, and Shaq's going to get hurt sometime in the season, what will happen then? He's only good for a year, he won't be on the team for more than 2 years to have a dynasty.

I really just think the Cavs need a Gasol like player and another player that can make plays by passing and making 20 points a game. If you add that with Mo Williams, they will be a sick team.

But yes, the presence of Shaq would be outstanding but it wouldn't last more than a year.

I may be the only one who feels this way, but I actually think this is going to hurt the Cavs on offense. Shaq can help shore up the defense in the middle, which was the main reason Dwight Howard got to them in the playoffs, so the move could help them in that regard. But the reason Cleveland has been successful thus far is Lebron's ability to create offense. Setting up Mount Shaq in the paint is only going to take driving lanes away from Lebron. I think they might have been smarter to go after a player with the ability to play defense down low, but also can hit the 8-10 foot jumper on the baseline. That way they'd have another option for kick out passes if the defenders flocked to a driving James.

But- my whole theory kind of hinges on what Shaq still has left in the tank on offense. If he can still bang around and be a force down low, then it will make them a better team on offense and defense. But I don't see him being a big contributor on offense. But it should be interesting to watch.

I agree with you, and you reminded me of one thing I have thought for years. I always knew shaq was intimidating in the middle on defense because of his size. But has he ever everaged over 12 rebounds per game? For his size and speed, I always thought he was a pussy for not averaging over 15 boards a game. He just didnt WANT it like someone like Rodman did.

Yeah- kind of defeats the purpose of the draft, which is to get young, talented players on the struggling teams so the leagues can maintain some kind of parity.

ugh... the move that single-handedly allowed the Colorado Avalanche to build a Cup contender literally overnight. That and a 11-1 drubbing the Red Wings handed the Canadians, leading Patrick Roy to demand to leave Montreal :D

This is the trade the Cavs should have made before the trading deadline this past season. I dont really see this trade making much of a difference at this point.

  • A good move, a move that should have been made before the trading deadline last year, but it is what it is, a 1 year deal, a deal to slow down Dwight Howard a little in the paint. They need to add another "bigger" guard that can play. I hope Shaq has something left in the tank.

As said before............... it should be interesting. :D

shaqs done... no better than Z at this point in his career... so i feel sorry for him... this wont do anything... atleast it shows cavs management making an effort to help out lebron a little... but theres gotta be something better they can do

hope to see things mix up a little more in this offseason... nothing cooler than some big trades... especially if it helps my bulls

not a thrilling draft pool... we'll have to wait and see what they do in the NBA

Hedo was one of the main reasons they made it to the Finals and he won't be back, they also traded one of their best shooters in Courtney Lee. Adding Vince is a lateral move

I don't think there is enought basketball's for everybody, I think Vince is a step backwards honestly. The Magic lost Lee,Alston and probably Hedo and replace them with Vince??????????????

Not a big fan of Carter, seems like all offense and no defense, plus has he ever been to the playoffs? just dosen't seem like a clutch player to me, I'ts not like I see the Nets play all the time though so maybe I'm off base with my two cents.
