night 2 i got to hear the new song "the end" which was gorgeous
I was there for both nights and I must say tonights show was by far the worse of the two. First off, you had your obligatory asshole in the mezzanine level shouting out bullsh*t the entire show until some lovely lady finally told him to shut the f*ck up. At one point Ed even called for the house lights to be shown in the area were this jerk was.
Aside from that, considering this was the last stop until Hawaii, the setlist was uninspired to say the least. A lot of the songs were repeats from last night. Driftin', Small Town, Hide Your Love Away. In particular the encore, which was nearly identical to last night (did we really need Wishlist two nights in a row)? My personal favorite was when Ed said how much he and the band had such a special relationship with Atlanta and how they had just finished recording the new album. If you love Atlanta so much, why hasn't Pearl Jam played here in SIX F*CKING YEARS! Aside from different covers from last night (tonight we got Girl From the North Country, Bobbie Jean, Don't Be Shy, I Won't Back Down) there was not a lot of song varation. He played Betterman on the Uke. I don't know what I was expecting but on a positive note hearing The End was great. Looking forward to that on the new record.
Sorry about the gripe session but the facts are the facts. I am very glad I went the first night.

Yes, that Untitled, the one that most frequently was paired with MFC.
Those were 2 of the highlights for me too. I don't know which one was better for me. Last night was for me more active and sing a longish. Tonight I was more in a mellow mood and enjoyed the slower songs more. Bobby Jean gave a tear to my eye. Untitled was awesome. That new song The End was great. Gone was a surprise and grand. He talked a lot less and didn't tell any stories. I felt like it should have been a bit longer because it was the last show on the mainland. I was expecting a song after Hard Sun- but it was an amazing night. I was walking after with that weak in the knees feeling of such a good show. (like I did last night too.) That didn't happen to me in Memphis for some reason because I guess I wasn't fully warmed up yet. A lot of songs I had never heard before (like Bobby Jean, The End and many more) that I sat and fully soaked up without being bored like I sometimes am during a song I don't know ( like the one by John Doe).
I really enjoy the solo, slow stuff and I'll really miss it when Ed stops doing this. I hope he has enjoyed it so much that he does it occasionally from now on. It doesn't have to be every year or every 3 years, it could be every 5 years, just so long as he doesn't stop doing these solo shows. It seems too much for me to take in everything in these 3 shows I attended which I enjoyed so much never to have this opportunity again.
I'll write more later.
I'm a bit torn, too. The first show wasn't my first EV show- I went to Memphis on Sat, but the mood seemed more up-beat. This night was more low-key for me, but that's not bad. I did really enjoy this and enjoyed the slower songs more. I think why I'm a bit disappointment with night 2 was because I was expecting it to be one of those last show type feeling where it's a bit longer and they try to top night 1. It felt different. He barely talked or told any stories and that bothered me. The repeats of Hide your love away and driftin bothered me a bit but I enjoyed Betterman this time and I usually don't and there were a bunch of songs I didn't know that I thoroughly enjoyed. That 2 min long standing-0 from last night when he mentioned the new album really affected the mood of night, for me.
But mostly it's mostly the fat that he only played hard sun on the last encore and I expected it to be a little but more. It was actually a really good concert and I enjoyed the slower songs more and that's what I like more anyway.
He sets the tone early since it's the last mainland show: "I think we should all just let it all f *king hang out"
In response to a fan yelling that they love him: "Have we met before, though? Or is this like first date syndrome? You love me now but..." He smiles, there's laughter.
In response to somebody yelling something that was inaudible from the stage: "I've been on the road for 18 years. I can't hear sh*t." Then he goes into talking about how loud it gets standing in front of Jeff Ament's bass amp.
In response to a heckler: "I barely heard what you said, but f * you. I came here in a good mood and you're not gonna ruin it."
In response to the ENDLESS song requests: "I don't go into f *ing Kinkos and tell you how to do YOUR job" <laughter and cheers>
He compliments the upper level for being heckler-free: "I don't hear anything rude and offensive coming from up in the 3rd balcony"
He also improved the lyrics to Untitled (as in the Untitled/MFC combo):
"Got a car. Got some gas. It's so f *king hot down here. Let's get out of the South fast!"
Then there's the whole cursing apology. It was just too long to capture. But here's the gist...
He dedicated a song to a 10 yr old, Brandon. Don't remember which song, but he messed up a little. Then afterwards he said "I think one of the many reasons I f *ked that up slightly, you know that first..." .He stops and realized that he's saying the f * word, when he just dedicated the song to a little boy. Then he did a big apology that started with: "i just feel bad about cussing in front of a 10yr old". But then in the apology he said f *k again. So then he just went with it, saying f *k about 30 times in the course of just a few sentences "....I know I look pretty cool sitting up here saying f *k, but f *k that. Don't start saying f *k. If u start saying f *k then I'll be pretty f *king mad at you. And your dad will be f *king mad at me. So f * that."
Somebody else can write about the second coming joke that Liam told.... I don't have the exact quote because I was too busy laughing.
don't let the quotes fool you. he actually kept up good spirits and gave us some great great songs. performance was solid. the song request people really just couldn't appreciate what was being handed to them and they didn't let up for the entire show.... all the way down to when Ed started up The End. As the opening chords were strummed, somebody finally shouted "Play what you want!" and Ed lifted his eyes and nodded in agreement.
zzzzzzzzzzzzz going to bed now g'night.
Woo, that's great.

Dan is my boy! He text me that he was 6th row early yesterday, I was SOO jealous...glad someone got the ticket that deserved it, he's the man!
it started with a cool flow. that weird version of small town being played over as ed came out that turned into a sing a long right off the bat..then dont be shy as the actual opening song made me pretty happy
Maybe they haven't played atlanta since O3 because they haven't toured the South since 03.. if you say they could have played here in 08.. they couldn't because of the contract with Roo. Then in 06 when they didn't hit the South i'm pretty sure their explanations made sense. They will be back to the South within the year.. Eddie says how much he LOVES nashville and they have only played there 3 times in nearly 20 years

I'm not so sure you want to be touting that you had ten club seats and did exactly what they asked you NOT to do
i think it was a classical guitar -- those are smaller than a standard acoustic. ukes have 4 strings, that had 6

edit: Small Town moved, Till The Rivers All Run Dry
My highlights:
Girl from the North Country - this made me cry because it's one of my all-time fave songs and Eddie did a beautiful job.
Millworker - because I didn't know it before but it's a really touching song
Bobby Jean - definite highlight for me as I'm a huge Bruce fan and I loved Eddie talking about him being 'Uncle Bruce' and recording in ATL with Brendan O'Brien. This rocked.
I Won't Back Down - I also love Tom Petty so this was awesome.
Wishlist - one of my fave PJ songs
Throw Your Arms Around Me - first time hearing this live and it was amazing
The End - beautiful song...I didn't know what it was until I read it here but can't wait to hear it again.
And I'm a huge fan of the Into the Wild soundtrack so all of those were special to hear.
Other than that, Eddie's banter was amazing and the best 2 moments I think were when he made the Kinko's comment and the jump over the feet chair. CLASSIC.
An unforgettable night
no big deal, but it was a mandolin. i sat behind the sound booth and they had it labeled for sound purposes. it was f-in beautiful regardless!
