i know a LOT of films get released each year, but sure....a LOT of them suck. 10 seems excessive really. may make it a tougher race, but i also think it may lower standards, tho i am sure many believe that has already happened. if it ain't broke, why fix it? :?

Definitely, and I think it's one that will benefit in both directions, not only to boost DVD/Theater sales with the "Best Picture nominee" advertisement, but also for the show. Using this year as an example, they could throw in two more nominations of Wall-E and The Dark Knight to try and get more mainstream viewership by using the huge box office movies.
