Punching out of work and heading to Comerica!
Should be a great game, looking like it could be a great pitching matchup with Zambrano taking the hill for Chicago and Edwin Jackson going to work for Detroit.

Go Tigers! :D

I got to watch them complete the sweep of Milwaukee on Sunday ;) Love that park!

I'm always pulling for the Tigers, but since you can't live in Chicago for any extended period without acquiring some Cubs gear, I wore my Cubs shirt with my Tigers hat just to mess with people :)

Holy shit, what an ending! Zumaya made a dumb mistake, but it was almost worth that walk off!

I'm not sure what was dumber...Zumaya's change-up down the middle or Gregg's low-80's hanging slider?

    Hahahaha!
    Fuck Kevin Gregg!

Zumaya's... he did it on purpose. I can forgive not being perfect all the time, sometimes shit doesnt break like you want. But Zumaya was throwing 104 past everyone... why throw a change up when you know they cant touch it for shit?

    Holy effing shit!
That was one of the coolest things I have ever seen live!
Was sitting out in left field, four rows from the Tigers' bullpen (closer to the foul pole, so neither Inge's or Rayburn's homers were near us).
    What a great game!
Also as a side note to Cubs fans- you guys travel really well! I don't know if it's because Chicago is so close, or that a lot of West Michiganders claim the Cubs as their team, but there were a lot of blue shirts out tonight. And they were very nice respectful fans. They give Cubs nation a great name.

On the way back home from the game they played an interview from Zumaya on the radio, and he didn't sound discouraged at all he basically said "It was my third best pitch and I've been working on it for awhile, I had my fastball going great and my change up too. I got the change up past Gary Mathews Jr. and thought I could fool him too. I got greedy. I thought I could fool him, but he fooled my by putting the ball in the stands..."

It was a mistake, but I can't pound him too hard. Then again, had we lost, I would prolly be ready to crucify him...

Despite the loss I wish I could have been there. Still one of the stadiums I have yet to go to (marking them off the list! :) )

Yeah, Cubs fans do travel well but they are everywhere. That is mostly in part due to them being on WGN for the last 25 years (or whatever it is). Many times they'd be the only baseball on TV in a many parts of the country so people kinda "got on board".
Here in Arizona, I get tix to every Cubs-Diamondbacks game and I can honestly say it's usually 70% Cubs fans. Granted, D-Backs have a shitty following and there are a lot of Chicago transplants here...but it's mostly an ocean of blue.

Glad you had a good time. Was a good game and I'm hoping we can get you jerks tomorrow! :D hahaha!

You saw a helluva game, thank god for the baseball package saving me from dreary losses by the NY teams. They keep validating my belief they would be better than most predictions had them.

I will agree that a guy who can throw 104 should never throw a mid 80s change to a guy with a well known "long swing". And the guy has a crazy curveball!!! That said, there is no way he intended to throw that ball right down the middle. I don't care who you are...you never leave a change down the middle.

Generally a slider has the tendency to hang as you're throwing the ball from the two outter sides of the ball...but that shouldn't be the case for a closer. A starter in the 6th or 7th may hang 'em as they are getting tired but Gregg hung two in that sequence. The second was hit out.

    F Kevin Gregg!

Sounds like the Cubs pitchers could use some steroids.
Maybe that would help them find the strike zone and stop walking in runs...

Maybe their batters could use some steroids too.
I think I heard they were like 1 for 25 or something with runners in scoring position for the last few games...

    3 homers now.
He just took Lilly yard for two runs. Tigers lead 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth.

It's a thought, but he had some sort of drawn out serious medical emergecny with his wife I think... he has seemed distracted and like his heart isn't in it all year. So for now, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Still, says a lot about the guy's talent when he has an average above .270 (which most batters would kill for) and people can't stop complaining that he's slumping. His average is beating Granderson and Polanco, who are also having down years. The diff is both of them at times have come up with clutch hits/plays. Magglio hasn't had a clutch hit in a long time and had way too many rally killing DP's this season.

Tigers win 6-5, extend their winning streak to 7 (all against NL teams  ), and are now 10 games over .500.
It's weird, but it's starting to feel like 2006 again.
Detroit has a completely different atmosphere when the Tigers are in a pennant race.

It was so cool seeing the buzz in that stadium this week, and even against the Brewer's! Now comes the test... on the road against some struggling teams. The Tigers tend not to be as strong on the road as at home, but this is a golden opportunity to change that. Though Oakland always plays them tough.

Still, for now... I'll just enjoy the back-to-back sweeps! :D

God damnit. There's been 6 games this year that I've wanted the Cubs to win(3 vs. Twins and Tigers) and they have lost 5 out of 6. Hopefully they'll keep up the shitty play this weekend on the south side.

All we can do is watch, right?
I love the feeling though, it's like the little things are working right now.
They are getting the contributions from different guys, they are taking advantage of other teams' mistakes, they are getting good starts from their pitchers.
It's the same when a team is struggling. It's like, when things are bad, they are really bad. But when things are good, you seem to get those flares to drop in and find a way to win.
They aren't going to win out or anything  So the best we can do is ride the streak while we can, and hope the Twinkies don't go on one of those ridiculous winning benders they are known for.

PS- Other baseball fans will say it's way to early to be thinking about a pennant race, but in Detroit, we are used to being out of it by Mother's Day, so we are easily excited :D

Totally agree. Winning close games with small ball, coming from behind with a walkoff in the 9th from pinch hitting Raburn of all people!!!! Thats what was going down in 06.

Baseball pennant races are the best!!! Checking the standings everyday (sometimes twice a day :D )
