Not for nothing, but since when was Jack White even mentioned in the same breath as Jimmy Page and the Edge???? Don't get me wrong, he's really good, but nothing to the level that those other 2 are at IMO.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

  • Um...I'll say it, I'd take White over Page or The Edge. If all three were playing in the same city on the same night, I'm going to see Jack White.

I don't think the Edge or White were picked because of their guitar prowess.

I think it had more to do with assembling three popular players from different eras, with different
playing styles, who are also passionate about the guitar.

I think all three are considered great guitar players. Have people not seen Jack White live? Dudes a fantastic player.

I'd say both of them are very good. But that really wasn't my point.

There are a lot of better players (like Mike) and it would have been easy to slide people
in like Malmstein, Vai, etc. But I think the filmmakers were as interested in who would
appeal to a larger audience and be fun to watch as they talk guitars.

    I could be wrong.

    Better than John Mayer.......

Frusciante woulda probably been the best option, imo....

though I think Adam Jones woulda been cool from the newest era, but not nearly enough mainstream popularity

I see what your saying. No doubt they didn't put players like the one's you listed in the movie because they want people to see the movie. Though, I think that also says something about guitarists like Malmstein, Vai, or countless other speedy, technically magnificent guitar players. For me, that type of playing is very insular and doesn't allow people to emotionally connect to it. But I agree with what you said.

    I couldn't agree more.

Give me a good, soulful blues player over that style, but I know a lot of people like it.

yes. they took 3 people from different eras with different styles, jimmy page was there when rock and roll first started, the edge and u2 were popular in the 80s and 90s and were influenced (at least in the beginning) by punk rock, and jack white is popular now and is influenced by the blues. plus jack white, as documented in the movie, uses a more stripped down sound whereas the edge uses a lot of effects to create his unique sound. it was interesting to see all the different ways to look at music and experience it and to see how it still unites us no matter our preference.

i, for one, loved this movie and urge everyone to see it! and please, go with an open mind.

I see on IMDb that it's going to be a limited release (no surprise for this type of film).
I just hope it plays somewhere near me with good sound.

    Fingers crossed.
